Hydroids

Hey all,
I have just noticed a few hydroids in my tank where my mantis is... will the mantis be ok with them? Theres quite a few but theyre not completely everywhere. The mantis only moved into this tank about a week ago so the hydroids were already there.
Thanks

I know some larger stinging corals and anemones are quite dangerous to mantis shrimps. There was a post recently in this forum about anemone and shrimp compatibility, Dr Roy replied to that and gave his opinion if ya wanna check it out.

If there are only a few, and they are still quite small i would imagine that he will be ok, but watch him just in case I say.

I would like to get them out but its not really possible to is it?
Unless I treat the tank which I cant do due to the mantis being in it. I did have 10 of those tiny hermit crabs in it for weeks and they were ok, this was before I took them out to add the mantis so hopefully he will be ok.

Jayded,

If the hydroids are still limited in number you can just pluck them off the rock manually. Other than that i dont know any real viable option for removal in a mantis tank. Even if you have large numbers of hydroids, i would recommened removing as many as possible, because they will eventually spread more and more.

Get the rock out and take a plumbers torch to it! That'll definately get them off, and not allow them to come back if you get them all!
