Hypes Archipelago

This might nave been said, but where did you get the tank built

I actually asked a while back. Chris at Pico Aquariums... Unfortunately he isn't doing custom tanks at this time. A similar setup is the Deep Blue Professional 30 gallon frag tank. It is just a few inches taller.

Rehype- just wanted to say I really enjoy this system. I have been watching it since the beginning and what you have been able to accomplish is exceptional.

Thanks so much jason i really appreciate you keeping up with the build  Its been a long road but im glad it managed to turn into a decent looking nano reef.

Thanks leto. No unfortunately i lost her a few months back. She had gotten tail rot and while i was succesful in treating the infection she stopped eating altogether while in quarantine. I was pretty bummed about as i had her for over 2 years.

So sad but 2 years IMO means you did something right. Sometimes its just their time to go.
I am soon setting up my my own seahorse nano. As far as seahorse tankmates I was thinking a few cardinals specifically Bangali (Black and Silver) if I remember correctly I think you had the two together. Did you have any issues?

I don't follow many threads but this is probably my favorite. I too wanted to know if you will try another seahorse or if you thought the system might have evolved so it is not a good fit based on what you observed. I always found it amazing that you had one in your tank. It created a sense of diversity I have rarely seen.

Thanks alot leto i appreciate that. I actually had blue eyed cardinals and red spots before that i had no issues whatsoever as they totally ignored one another. Look forward to seeing your build.

I hate you.

I'd sell my mother to a sex-slave cartel for SPS colors like that.

I literally loled

beautiful system, it's really come together nicely

Thanks alot rob

Thanks alot for checking in jm. Ive thought about it extensively but am still undecided. I really miss having one to be honest.

I just came across this thread and im glad i did, awesome tank. I too have a 24 cube but 13' tall. made by DeepBlue. few questions. If you answered them already sorry but I cant go through 22 pages lol

-how do you like running two MP10's? I have one right now and have it on 75-80% for my SPS. Im thinking having two running lower intensity and varied flow would be better for the tank. My return is the Triton3 850GPH but have it turned down a bit.

-Do you have any issues with the fine sand bed? for example the mp10 kicking stuff up? or is your flow not that heavy. Im running barebottom which is better for SPS but i miss the sand.

-I saw you stopped using carbon, but are you supplementing CAL,ALK, mag? if so how much and how.

- do you have a top on it? i know those yashas like to jump
your tank is inspirational. keep it up.

-Hey james i really love having two mp10's as i think its ideal considering this tanks width.
-I did have an issue with sand being blown around until i got the mp10 shields which have helped alleviate that issue.
-Im still using carbon just in smaller amounts. Im supplementing alk using a drews dosers and it doses around 16ml a day. Mag and calc i dose manually as needed.
-No cover as i prefer the look of it without one.

Thanks alot james i really appreciate it.

what do you mean by shields? you added a shield to them?

At one point a fellow reefer was making these custom acrylic shields. Unfortunately hes since stop making them but they work great.

thats exactly what i need lol He doesnt make them anymore? no shot im finding something that would do the same thing too dam. Heres a question though, it looks like its mounted to the top lip of the tank, shouldnt the shield be on the bottom?

Nope unfortunately he totally disappeared from the forums. The shield is on the top to prevent the vortech from pulling air from the top.

Thanks alot Jeff I really appreciate the feedback.unfortunately nano tanks don't qualify for RC TOTM.

This was posted way back but this is the first time I've really read this thread and I'm here to say this is completely UNTRUE! ;):D Nano tanks just get nominated a lot less as there seems to be a lot fewer of them that really go above and beyond.

<table style="WIDTH: 431px" align="center" border="2" bordercolor="#006699" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="2"> <tbody> <tr> <td bgcolor="#006699" width="73%"><center>If you'd like to nominate a tank for Tank of the Month, click here or use the button to the right.</center></td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" width="27%"></td> </tr> </tbody> </table>

Thanks so much for stopping in and clarifying that cody as i was unaware. Thats really great news as there are quite a few systems that deserve to be nominated.

Glad to hear about the cardinals.

I'll be sure to post a thread and add to my signature. But it's going to be a while, I'll document the tank from the begining, but won't post till its going strong, watching a tank cycle is like watching paint dry. Not to mention I'm running into issues right now, basically I intended to be very budget on this tank, but as any reef tank goes I'm invested way over my planned budget. X-P

On a side note I plan on starting from the smallest of frags, but will choose only the best that I can get my hands on. So I have a couple questions for you:
1. Do you buy your corals online or a LFS? If online would you mind either posting (or PMing if its against the rules) who you buy from?
2. What types of SPS, if any, would you recommend to start?
