Hypes Archipelago

But it's going to be a while, I'll document the tank from the begining, but won't post till its going strong, watching a tank cycle is like watching paint dry. Not to mention I'm running into issues right now, basically I intended to be very budget on this tank, but as any reef tank goes I'm invested way over my planned budget. X-P

On a side note I plan on starting from the smallest of frags, but will choose only the best that I can get my hands on. So I have a couple questions for you:
1. Do you buy your corals online or a LFS? If online would you mind either posting (or PMing if its against the rules) who you buy from?
2. What types of SPS, if any, would you recommend to start?

I know your pain as its almost impossible to stick to a budget in this hobby

1.I buy most of my corals from my LFS and fellow local reefers

2.I would recommend monitpora digitata or capricornis as beginner sps as they're pretty hardy and can tolerate less than ideal water parameters. Seriatopora hystrix is also a good beginner sps....hardy and grows fast.

Hope that helps

congrats on such a beautiful and thriving reef...
And your photographs are masterclass....WOW....very professionally done.

Happy Reefing!!

What a great looking tank. The look of your tank have pushed be off the fence and I'm going back to T5 with some LED supplementation.

Ive got a great fix for clam diseases for future reference, Ive had all kinds off battles with mine through the years. PM me if you get another, Ive never lost any of my 5. :)

Hi Rehype, great tank. I've been following for a while now -though finally decided to join so I could ask you questions :)

were you spot feeding your seahorse when you had it in there? and how was it dealing with the flow? i'm thinking about trying something similar in my tank

thanks,
D

Thanks for keeping up with the thread and appreciate the feedback

Yes i was. She dealt with the flow well although i dialed it back considerably to accommodate her needs. If your planning to add a seahorse your tank needs to be centered around the horses needs(flow, coral, fish, feeding regimen)

Rehype,

May I ask where you obtained said Pico aquarium?

Thanks,
~John

From chris at pico aquariums. unfortunately he not building any tanks right now.

Awwwww that sucks... Oh well. :sad1:

Yep unfortuantely shes gone. The storm took her from me.

Just wanted to thank everyone that has checked in or commented in this thread appreciate your thoughts and feedback. This tank went for a great run and it was awesome being able to share it with you guys. Look forward to keeping up with your builds and watching them progress.

I am sorry for your loss it was an amazing tank. I am confused about one thing though. You had 2 Vortechs on your tank, didn't you have the battery back up, or was the power outage just too long and the battery eventually died?

Again sorry for your loss, hope you start over real soon, you have the talent.
