i bought a blue tang a month ago, treated him in qt for 4 weeks. thought he beat the ich so i put him in the main tank, 3 days later ich. my question is can i hypo my main tank with the live rock? my qt is not big enough for all my fish. i have a clean up crew but plan to remove them before treatment. thanks in advance

NO!!! If you do hypo for the suggested amount of time (about 6 weeks), all of the critters in your sandbed and LR will die off and cause an ammonia spike, killing everything else in the tank. I also read a few posts by people that did it, and the smell made them want to move out of their house!! Low tide. I moved all of my fish into a 40 breeder, and a 55 gallon. Keep an eye out for cheap tanks at garage sales, etc. Good luck!

I would be concerned as well that the critters on the LR and sand would die off causing a crash

I'm treating ick in my main tank right now, i moved all my rock, softies to my qt and all my fish are perfectly fine, no spike in Am or trites. Sure the nitrates are up a bit because the skimmer won't work that well but i'm not worried about that to much. Ofcourse all my pods and life in the sandbed are dead now, but once i return the LR from my qt it'll be just as good as new. SO yes this can be done with success. I chose this way cuzz of the blue tang being sensitive fish. The lower stress teh better.
