hi all i have a beautiful flame angel in my reef thats about to be evicted for a few reasons 1. she brought ick into my reef and 2. she picks at corals specifically my prized montis ;'(. so anyways ive noticed she has these little black spots on here lower sides just above the black and blue part in the red part. now first off i thought these were little spots of black color being its right there and just about the same on both sides, but then i noticed one spot in between her black bars right on the side in the middle so i became spectical and decided to look closer and i figured it has to be black ick. so shes about to be thrown into hypo for ick and black ick so i wanted to know will hypo kill the black ick too as well as the reg white ick or do i have to do somehting special? also before i put her into her qt tank i will do a formalin dip its a preventative i do on all fish inbetween lfs before i qt for one of my main displays.

P.S. I dont have a good enough camera to take a picture of the little black spots

Hypo is not a proven treatment for ich. However, in does seem to work for some species of monogenetic worms so it is possible. Some black spots on a flame is not unusual and can be normal coloration. Be very careful dipping your fish in formalin. It is much better if you don't use a net because they remove mucus protection and sometimes scales or skin. Not a good idea to formalin dip an injured fish.

ok so hypo is not a treatment for ick now all of a sudden? i have a 5 gal bucket just for formalin dips, i put a little powerhead in there for circulation and i dip them for atleast 30 mins. also i corner the fish with the fish net, then they swim into the net then i lift it towards the surface and hold it there then i scoop out each fish with a cup and put them into a little container of tank water then i cup the fish out of the container into the bucket and then after treatment i scoop them back out the same way.

Several different treatments can work, maybe even hypo. FW dips can work for a light infection, repeated. Formalin dips, one every third day for a total of three. Organophosphates can work, but I would use them last because they are not always well tolerated.

ok so treat it as if it was brook basically? i just went through that with my clowns so i know how to do that no problem, and i also dip all my fish in a formalin bath for half hr when i get them from the lfs or from one fish tank to another even. i drop about 45-50 drops in half a 5 gal bucket
