Hello guys! i think my dogface puffer has ick:mad2: . I'm pretty sure it's ick. I've been using ICK ATTACK for 3 days now . But i don't see the white dots decreasing? So i guess i'll do the hyposalinity thing for a month:o . Can i do this with mushrooms and LR in the tank? and some Big mexican turbos and red legged hermits? :worried:
Thanks in advance for any inputs.........

No, you can't. You need to do hyposalinity in a seperate tank, or you risk losing life in the tank, corals, bacterial, and other.

If hyposalinity is no longer an option, you can try freshwater dips to see if that helps any, and make sure the fish is eating a good diet consistently. Also, make sure your water parameters are where they should be to lessen the stress on your fish, which could suppress the immune system more.

thanks nihonjin_anemone the water parameters are good and consistent.....Fish is eating and swimming happy. I'm just worried about the white spots stoping him from breathing:(

I agree with the fresh water dip..... no hyposalinity..... would only get rid of the ick and hurt/weaken everything else... if not kill it.

FW dips do not work on Ich, the parasite is too deeply embedded in the fishes skin. So far the only reliable cures are hyposalinity and copper, both of which need to be done in a QT.

i am also battling ick now, my 6" regal, 5" Herlequin tusk, and 4" bicolor parrot has ick. Herlequin has so much im not sure if it will make it(its still eating well tho).

i have them in a 150gallon with 240gallon sump along with LR, LS, and also starfish, hermits, and a zebra eel.

i also have 60gal refugium that is not plumbed into the main system. it has chaeto and some LR and 4" DSB.

i plan on putting all three fish in the 60gal for hyposalinity. but im concerned that without a protein skimmer would chaeto be enough to prevent ammonia spike?

can eel survive hyposalinity?
what about bacteria on LR?

my concern when i have to place fish in a quaranteen tank is that, i will be skimmerless since my ASM G5 sits in the sump.

can they handle without skimmer for a month and only depend on bacteria from LR and LS?

ps. my LR is basically base rocks with no inverts.

The eel will have no problem with hypo ;)

Bacteria on LR and LS will not be harmed by hypo either, however any inverts such as worms will not be so fortunate. Skimmerless for a month will not be a big deal either. Just make sure that there is plenty of circulation within the tank and monitor the ammonia the levels and alk. You will probably need to add some buffer to maintain pH.
