Hyposalinity, Clownfish Mating, and Proper Diet

I had a pretty ridiculous ich outbreak because I never QTed when I started my tank. My hippo was absolutely covered. Somehow, and I think this was largely attributed to his diet, I kept him alive and over the course of a week and a half dropped the salinity in my 120gal from 1.026 to 1.008.

Over the course of this salinity change, I fed a mix of oyster, clam, spirulina enriched brine shrimp, Cyclopeeze and PE Mysis along with veggie flakes, nori and Formula two pellets. I soaked all the food in fish oil (bought at the local grocery store in capsule form) and fed to the tank. My fish went absolutely nuts for the stuff. I got the idea from Paul B. who recommended this in one of my favorite threads on the site (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2265978&highlight=oyster). Each day I varied the feeding from one protein source to another, along with nori, pellets and flakes. As the salinity got lower, my fish seemed to thrive more than before and the ich disappeared.

Now, I went to the beach for a few days and had someone feeding my tank for me. I returned to find my pair of blacker ice clownfish had mated and the female was pregnant. Now I know mating isn't a big deal usually, but the fact that this occurred in hypo, with an ich outbreak, was very perplexing.

I don't know how common this is, but I was able to mate two clowns and nurse my fish back to health and have them eating better than ever before all while undergoing hyposalinity treatment. I have to attribute this to Paul B's excellent diet recommendation.

The only problem I had was transferring my coral and anemone to a friend's tank and most coral didn't make the trip. Although I still have a few more weeks left in hypo, I just thought I would share this story as I don't know how common it is.
