Hyposalinity - tolerance for SG

Would it make a huge difference whether the SG is 1.008 or 1.009? I have managed to get it to what seems to be like 1.008 but then again, using a reftractometer is only as accurate as you can read the line, and the line is not always tack sharp. I know from experience that my AquaTronica says 0.001 higher than what I read using my refractometer - so I guess it is possible that my SG is either at 1.008 or 1.009. My question is would this affect the fish negatively?

Youll be fine at 1.008 or 1.009. I did my hypo at 1.008 for 9 weeks. Hypo doesnt not affect fish negatively unless the fish is kept in hypo for long periods of time. the 6-8 weeks that is recommended or the 9 if you want to go a little extra will be perfectly safe for your fish.

If you are having trouble do to evaporation I would set up an auto topoff system while you are performing your hypo. They are very cheap and can be set up with an old powerhead and a 5 gallon bucket.
