I got some pictures of my sick angel... Can anyone confirm this is lymphocystis?

Based on the many many pictures I have looked at, I'd say your angel looks like it does have lymphocystis.

I am certainly not an expert though, this whole situation with my angel has been the first time I even heard of lymphocystis. I do still think that's what she has, but I'm not sure. She is still exactly the same.

When you say exactly the same, do you mean she still has the huge thing on her tail and all?

Since lymphocystis are related to stress and water quality, I wonder if they would heal faster if put into the main tank, where they can graze on the live rock algae, and enjoy being among a bunch of caves and hide-outs...

That is an interesting thought....but I'd be scared to do that not knowing with 100% certainty that it is only Lymphocystis. My tank has been fish-less for sooo long, and I'd hate to start over again with the fish-free display tank thing.

Yes, she still has the large white clumps on her tail, and the many many spots all over her body. One of these days I need to post those pictures. Yours looks more like pics of lymphocystis that I've seen, but I still think they are both cases of it.

Did your fish survive? This was an interesting read, I hope everything started going in the "recovering coulmn."

My angels are still alive. The one that was always fairly 'healthy' is doing very well. He has grown a lot. The one that fell on the cement floor and had what I think is lymphocystis still does not look great. I need to take some updated pics. I don't know what's wrong with it, but it's still eating and swimming around ok...it's driving me crazy, I feel like my QT tank is going to be their home for quite a while...

I have to sadly report my angel passed away. I believe one of the grouths was too close to its mouth. It had stopped eating when I decided it would be better in the display tank (after reading posts saying lymphocystis are not contagious and are due to stress and water conditions). Probably too late.
My Green Chromis (also infected w/ the virus) made into the display tank and its healthy and growing now. The only signs of the disease are some scars, probably missing scales. The bugger is so fast and tiny...

Hey ReefGirl, It is great your fish are still alive and you have made a great effort. Your fish has a systemic fungal infection. They are 99% of the time induced when the fish becomes chilled for a few hours or more. Most likely happened on its way to the LFS. The stress it faced being caught at the LFS probably did not help either. When the fungal infection becomes systemic, the only prudent action is one of wait and see if the fish can get better on its own along with good aquarium husbandry. There are currently no drugs available to the hobbyist that can cure systemic fungal infections in fish. Your other angel showed minor symptoms with the small patch of bulging scales but was able to fight off the infection. Good luck to you and your fish.
