I really do not know why I am posting this, hopefully someone can reinforse just how stupid I am, let me have it!

Last night I was dipping my Crocea in fresh water, I placed the water in a zip lock, let it balance to the tank temp and carefully placed the clam in and put it in my sump.

On the way to the kitchen to set the oven timer my 2 yr old daughter started to cry and......

Well it was 3pm today before I remembered it was still in the ziplock. I feel like **** and cannot believe I was so careless. It hit me when I was reading another post at work and it mentioned a clam. I felt like someone had shocked me as I jumped almost 6" off my chair.

Man, I never thought I could be so mindless!

Out of sight, out of mind. It happens all the time, especially when we have tons of things happening around us, it's easy to lose track of all the little things we should do. Good luck.

MURDERER:mad2: KILLER

I'm sorry but you did say ...hopefully someone can reinforse just how stupid I am, let me have it!

I'm just kidden. Sorry for your loss. I've managed to kill my share of things as well.

Look on the good side. Clams for dinner!
:D

You folks are too kind!

Amazingly, the clam does not look too bad.... I expected the flesh to show advance signs of decomposition, but it looks fairly normal and still shows no color loss.

It is back in the tank and looking rough, but it is showing some signs of reflex when you block the light. But, even a headless chicken will even run for hours, or so I have heard!

Amazing. Of course, I don't let my clam sit in fresh water for more than 30 min. If your clam survive from this ordeal, that would be a record.

i've heard of plenty of people leaving their clams in FW overnight accidentally, and causing no problems.

Here's my stupid story ... Many years ago I used to have a float valve just attached to my cold water supply on my house. Well, never attach your topup to an infinite supply ... yup, one night the line popped off and started pouring cold freshwater into the tank. Of course this happened at night.... When I woke up the next morning, this had been going on for up to 8 hours or so. What a mess. The tank was basically pure freshwater, and cold.

I'll never forget that carnage. What a mess.

But ... what amazes me about this story is the things that survived. I had a maxima and a derasa, and both lived through the event. I even had acroporas live through the event.

So ... unless you're sure the clam is dead already, don't give up on it. It might pull through yet. You never know.

good luck...

you love your daughter much more than a clam..
that's a good sign..
sorry for your loss but..there's always a second chance...!Q!!

i don't think you should worry much as it is open and has reflexes. when a clam shuts up, not much can penetrate into the shell to wreak havoc. good luck and keep us updated.

Hope the clam makes it and RC would need a new storage system to keep the list of "mistakes" I have made :(
