I am Befuddled

So, between december and the end of February, my KH/alk was between 5 - 7 dKH (1.83-2.51 alk) this is when i had stunning awsome color and growth.

now that i have my KH/alk up around 9 dKH (3.2 alk) most of my corals have stopped their huge growth streak and are not as colorful (noticable in sps and zoos)

i have not changed anything, except the ammount of backing soda that i am adding to up it.

should i just run my tank with the low KH.alk if that is where it does best?

I just did all my tests today since a couple of my SPS are looking a little more sad than before. Calcium at 390 blah, KH at 6.........I'm thinking it's the calcium that is upsetting my sps. The KH has been between 6 and 7.5 since the tank was setup. calcium was at 430 until recently as I've added a few new corals and a new clam.

I hadn't changed the amount of 2 part since adding the corals and I think they've been slowly sucking up my calcium.

are you sure that you dont have it backwards--- for some other reason the growth slowed causing the alk to climb as you kept supplementing?

just a thought

ok, I did that Phil, now it looks like a have a log floating in the tank..... kinda weird, but causes a cool lighting effect.

I believe you may need the services of Dr. Gabe!:D

I saw that coming. Better get the sewer snake out and poke that thing though.

Trottie do what was working for your setup. So far every topic I have read about in this hobby has conflicting opions.

Hey Trottie! I have found chasing numbers never helped my tank at all. Go by the health and appearance. If it looked better lower, go back to that. I really only test when something looks askew. (please dont judge that by my penis weed display though!) For the 15 years prior to that I had pretty good luck.

trust me you dont want to see a picture of what he just described. It will hurt your eyes and you wont belive what you see.
