i didn't really understand the tunze.com explanation. is it just for freshwater top off or can i dose kalkwasser with it?

and if i can do a kalwasser top off...how can i set it up to do it in my sump. there is no way that i will be able to put the osmolator in my main display.

thanks for any info roger.

It is a top off system. The sensors go in the sump but the top off feed line is only the size of an airline and has to be directed to the aquarium as otherwise the reservoir which woulkd usually have a higher water level than most sumps will just siphon in to the sump. You only would have a small line for refill coming over the back of the tank. It can dose kalkwasser, this does void the warranty as the pump will be ruined in less than 2years with kalk. However, the pump is $18 and many people choose to do it anyway. The best way is to use it to feed a Nilsen or Kakwasser Reactor. We offer our Calcium Dispenser which is a very simplified version or I have known many people to use the My Reef Creations model and I have to say it is well made- Andy is present on this board and could probably help you more on that end.

thanks for the reply! :)

so, all i have to do is put the sensor into the sump...when it detects a drop in water level...it activates a pump to fill the main display...then, in theory...the excess water pumped into the main display should flow back into the sump...thus raising the water level to where it was set and the sensor shuts off.

did i get it?

do i get a gold star?

roger,

why can't i use the osmolator to dose it into the sump when the water supply container is higher than the sump level?

if i put the osmolator water fill hose at a higher water level than the osmolator water reserve...won't there be a siphon created from the higher water supply into the osmolator to the water reserve?

thanks.

When the pump starts in the first scenario you mentioned, after it cuts off their will be a siphon. In the second scenario it would not be possible unless the hose touches the surface of the aquarium which is a big no no.

i am now starting to get the pic...

thanks for all your help roger...

okay,

will this work...

i don't really want to plumb a hose to the main display of my 125g. it is visible on all four sides and would be hard to conceal a hose.

if i can plumb an osmolator to my fuge that would be higher than the reserve...i think this would work. is the osmolator supply line not supposed to be submerged in water...otherwise a siphon will happen? i am supposed to put the osmolator supply line above the water level?

thanks for all your help! i am going to get ready to buy an osmolator for kalk dosing and need to be mentally prepared.
