I am looking for a Carpet Anomone to host my 2 tiny clown fish, I bought them tiny hoping they will become breeders. They are like about an inch long and a half of inch tall. Just some cuties.. I am checking into buying some Clowns to breed, but iI will wait to se what these will do, so for now I am looking for a Carpet Anomone or any other type of Anomones that they will host. So if anyone has something please let me know and how much.

Thank You,
Rob

What kind of clowns are they? Your prob better off getting a bta. Ive had a carpet for almost three years now and my maroon clowns have never gone near it . I put a bta in the tank and they were in it before it had its foot attached. but you never know. Check out the anemone faq here and find out what your clowns natural host is . also i know some one else will say it so i might as well go ahead make sure you tank is stable enough for any anemone before you introduce it .

Most of all the shops in town will have BTAs of different colors. Jim at sea dwellers on Dupont had some carpets in last time I was there. His contact info is on our local club page. Give him a call or stop out and see what he has.

I hope you have a very large tank as carpet anemones can get to 24" in diameter. They are the natural symbiotic host to perculas and ocellaris clowns. Any other fish in the tank will become food for this voracious eater. Please do your research, carpet anemones have a poor survival rate in the hobby and really should remain in the ocean. If you insist on an anemone you should really try a fake one for a while and make sure your clowns will host it. Most captive bred clown fish take quite a while to realize that the anemone is their friend. They don't have the luxury of seeing other clowns hosting in an anemone so some people actually post pictures against the glass of their tank showing clowns in anemones......yes I have heard of this. I have two ocellaris in my 75, I first introduced a bta......they totally ignored it and continued to host a candy cane coral......I finally took the coral and fragged it up.....and introduced an lta. It took the clowns about another year to finally realize that the lta was a friendly place to hang out. Now they will not leave it and protect it by biting any hand that wanders close mostly mine.....good luck and remember that beatiful as anemones are they are picky and need specific requirements.

also clowns take a few years to mature before they will breed so if u dont buy a mated pair from a store it might be awhile befor u see anything happen if at all.

I appreciate all the help and input that ya'll have given, every little bits goes along way. I am doing my research on the Carpet anemone and the BTA's I think that I will go with a BTA instead of the Carpet just for the sure fact that I don't have a big tank only a 30gal for now. I have also read that the Carpet Anemones should be kept by Experienced reefers, because they are picky and take alot of caring for. But some day I will have one after i get out of the Training Pants of Reef keeping! :)

I don't think you ever get out of the training part of reef keeping. I think it is a constant learning hobby. If you get bored with what ever style of tank, or the methods you use to do so, there are 100 new ways everyday that someone is trying and having luck with. The hobby is always changing and growing.

Keep us posted with what you decide and show us some pics
