I am looking for some sand and rocks

Hey All,

I went to my LFS and their prices are awful for sand and live rock. I have a 55 gallon tank that I am setting up and want to add about 2 inches worth of sand. I'll be picking up some live rock at the Frag Swap but its not enough. Does anyone know where I buy some fine aragonite sand at a good price? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Al

for this sand you can look for kolorscape sand i got mine at true value it was like $5/bag and then you can just seed your tank with 1 or 2 lbs of live sand
as for rock there's usually alot of sales in the forums here on r/c, or marco rocks sells rock base cheap once agian you would need to let it become live over time in your tank but worth it for the price differance

Never heard of kolorscape but then again, I am new at this. I wanted to get a white colored sand and something that was going to help me regulate ph levels and support good coral health once I begin adding them. How is this working out for you? I thought about buying some rock base because its alot cheaper but I was looking for something a little more natural looking. Thanks for your help

hi kolorscape sand is a white play sand make by oldcasle this is the product people used to call southdown sand i think the company was bought and they changed the name.and actually i have like 2 bags left if you can't find it i'll sale them to you $5 each i'll be at the swap

marco rocks are very life like i bought 30lbs of it for $2lb at macna this year(and carried about 2 miles back to the hotel ouch the next day) you can also try to make your own if your daring enough to try i've made my own reef plugs and i use the leftover mix to make rock forms mine don't have the gaps like the real thing but i heard you can use an air compressor to make some nice waves and ruffles but i don't have that kind of time.

Thanks for the info Brad, I just looked for Marco Rocks online and they are exactly what I am looking for. I like the shape, color and pattern of the rock. Perhaps I can find the for a good price online. Maybe I will take a ride down to TFP this weekend. Maybe I will get lucky and find them for a good price. How would you describe the kolorscape sand? I am looking for really fine sand and not that course type.

it's white plain old sand my gobies sift though it fine i'm sure if you search it you'll get i better idea.
and something fishy has live rock on sale this week as low as $2.99/lb

I can probably give you some sand. I'm in Hazleton every week or you can pop on over to my place in white haven sometime.
