i have 2 clowns and 1 is beating the other one up, so i separated them,. they were a pair for 3 months, that is how long i have had teh tank. so they just suddenly started to fight.

so can i exchange the beaten up one for a smaller one and will it pair with the other one still in the tank???

they are occellarus clowns about 3 inches each and in a 24g nano cube

are they same size?
if so yes go find a tiny one and it should pair i would use a specimin container to get them introduced

The more dominant one could be converting into a female. One day my larger clown started beating up the smaller one. Wouldnt even let in in the nem. This happened for a couple of days. After that they have been fine. Ride it out a little they might just be establishing themselves.

they haev been a pair for more than 3 months, and the smaller one looks pretty bad sou think i should put it back in?

well b4 they were fighting the 3 months the smaller one was doing the twitch thing to the bigger one, but now i thnk the smaller one is fighting back, unless they mated b/c they were hanging out in a cave for a while,
when ever i go by the tank they start to fight
i honestly dont know wat to do

It's always a toss up to do, there's never a guarentee the next one will be better either. I would be inclined to ride it out myself.

ok thanks, i will wait for some more responses, but probably try to put them together again, and if it doesnt work, maybe i wont get another clown and exchange it for a different fish. there is some cool fish out there

i have an intank refugium and do you think if i put both of them in there they might work it out?

I wouldn't confine them to something smaller. The smaller one will at least have a chance to hid if it doesn't work out.

biggy if they have both decided to be females which is what i susspect the fish will not work it out
in the aquarium size difference matters which is why people run into problems with groups of clowns the female keeps switching mates to the small ones and the ones in the middle start going female

if anything i would use the fuge as a way to seperate them

if they are both decided they are female and they fight take the smaller one out and find one that is as small as possible size difference in the aquarium is more important than in the wild

My big female is the only one that twitches to the smaller male, smaller by about 2 inches! Maybe your male wants to be a lady!
