I have a sony DSCv-1 and for some reason my laptop will not DL the images into a folder. In the past all i had to do is plug in the usb and turn the camera on and it was set. Now when i do plug in my usb and turn my camera the only thing that happens is a icon pops up on the right corner of my screen that allows me to remove/disc the camera. I have tried to dl a driver but i still have probems. Anyone experience this? Did i mess with my settings on my camera that i shouldn't have? Any advice would be great

I moved this here since you might have better luck in this forum.

will a memory card solve my problems? I was also told this by a friend but wasnt sure. For $15 bucks ill give it a shot.

Anyone else have an idea?

With the camera connected to the computer and turned on, open windows explorer and see if your camera is listed as a drive, if so you cane copy your pictures using windows explorer from the camera to whatever folder you wish on your computer.

When i open explorer it shows E drive, sony but when i double click it no picture opens up. So what i did was take my memory card out and use a tester and it indicated my memory card is fine. Wierd thing is explorer shows E drive but nothing in that folder.

I agree with reefrunner as this is how I have gotten them out of every digital I've owned. It'll appear as a harddrive in explorer, it may be nested underneath other folders in the root of the "E:" drive. As an alternative you could get the reader for your card type, they're very inexpensive, most common types are built into printers and even newer computers these days, plug the reader into a USB port and away you go, again it will appear as a drive in explorer and again the images will probably be at least two folders 'deep'. I have seen some cameras that don't want to 'give up' the images as easily as a reader might.

Im ****ed! Im going to get the reader wheni get the chance. Ill post a update in a few days wheni get the reader.

Ok, so i went to my friends house who has a card reader. When i install it into my usb it indicated new hardware? *** this has never happend before. I usually have to jsut plug it in a go, im set. So we try a few other things like mouse and a diff camera. Well the mouse didnt have aproblem but any other device we installed it seem unable to reconize. We had a memory card reader also and it red my memory fine but when we connected it to usb it wasnt reconized. We tried the same thing on my friends lap top and it was also just plug and play. Again, pluged camera in, no instant reconization so hit explore and see E drive open, click on it and ......tadaaaaa blank screen. I was told by someone that my usb drives are probably all messed up andi should just reinstall Windos xp. Is there an altearnative?

Depends on the driver(s) that came with your usb controller and even how current your OS updates are. Some devices need additional drivers to be recognized on the USB. Firewire tends to be more plug-n-play.

I'm really surprised the drivers that would have come with your camera didn't augment the bus driver set enough to recognize the camera as a read/write device.

Well the thing is i never had a problem with it before. I never had to install any drivers for the sony camera.

My OS sofware is up to date. Im still running the OS that came with my laptop which is only 6 months old and i have it set to automatically update.

I do recall one mistake i might have made. I had to isntall a driver for my USB so that i could convert one port into a Serial. The set up worked halft the time and at the same time the Sony camera worked also. I recently deleted that driver, do you think i also deleted the other driver neccesary to run the camera? if so h ow do i go about in repairing this?
