What about the little guys around them that don't have the snail look to them? Did they come on my dry rock I'm cycling? Should I do anything thing about them or leave them be?

Dry rock has been in my fishes tank for about 5 weeks now. I decided to let it cycle while clowns were in QT. Ammonia and nitrites are both 0, but nitrates are really high somewhere between 40-80ppm. I have been doing 12% water changes each week and nitrates don't seem to be moving. What is my next step? Clowns can't go back in with the nitrates this high correct?

12% water changes will take a LONG time to reduce a nitrate reading of 80. Try 50% instead.
As far as the clowns go, fish in general are much more able to withstand high nitrate readings than say, corals, and clowns, in general, are tough fish. Many fish-only systems run with nitrates in the hundreds.

The other, non-shelled critters are 'pods of some sort (copepods or ostracods).
