I don't have a clue!

I have 2 false percs that have evidently laid eggs in my 90. Along with these 2 fish I have a yellow tang, a pacific blue tang, flame angel, and an orange fire fish. I'm pretty sure that I am scre*** on saving this offspring, but if anyone has any ideas please enlighten me. I didn't figure that they were a mated pair when I bought them for $25 2 months ago.

It's quite common for clownfish to spawn in a reef tank, most folks just let them be and the tank benefits form a bi-weekly plankton bloom. If you seriously want to try raising some fry spend some time reading here and get yourself the Joyce Wilkerson Clownfishes book, it clearly explains everything you need to know.

BTW, many of us who are actively trying to raise clowns often have to wait years for a pair to start. 2 months???? Are you kidding????

They were a mature pair I got from some guy that needed to off-load them. I just bought them because my wife wanted a clown fish and I couldn't pass up the $25 for 2.

It's still pretty awesome, sometimes just moving a pair will throw them off longer than that. You have a good pair for sure. It takes a good deal of time and attention to raise them, also you'll end up spending a few $ setting up. Read through some of the threads here, get that book noted above and give it some thought. It is very rewarding but it is a lot of work.

Thanks David,

Now it is talking the wife into another tank. haha

If you want to raise the fry, it'll be a heck of a lot more than just one more tank. Oh, it starts out as one more and then another and then before you know it you have 75 tanks, no sleep and wife/husband and kids who forget what you look like.D:D:D

to add to what Dman said,
then you have to try selling them, and thats not always easy when every one is breeding them like mad, Dman how many clowns can you raise in a year with your existing set up 5k 10k ? how big a market is there for them realy ? 10 guys breeding 10k each a year 100,000 a year is alot

SDC sells 1000 a week and that is just one wholesaler. I wouldn't worry too much about being able to sell them :D My goal is 800-1000 a month and they will be lined up to get them.

I figured I would just give them away. I really wouldn't want to take the time to sell them. Maybe take them to the LFS' in the area and get a tad of credit. Believe me I know that this whole hobby does not pay you back in greenbacks, but I like to try new things.

Spoken like a guy who has not yet poured endless hours of his time, sacraficed the love of his family and spent every last spare dime he had beating his head against the wall for what seems like an eternity. Well done :D

When it comes time to give them away call me :smokin:

And when they've drained away the last vestiges of your patience and sanity, I'll buy the parents of ya. :D

wow One spawning and these guys have you in the poor house devorced and crazy selling off the origonal mated pair of Clowns

all in three steps ....

will you have to pay child support on the baby clowns?

:-)

Nice vid151! You know the child support already drains me. Since the state can only have half I guess the clown spawn are Scre***.

All kidding aside, raising one or two batches a year is not unreasonable and I'm sure there are people out there that do it, I'm just not one of them. :D
I sometimes wonder what my life would be like if I had decided to just a couple of batches a year.
