I don't know what to do

I have a Coralife Super Skimmer with the needle wheel pump. Is this thing a first rate POS or what? It is super touchy, it will run great for several days then the last 2 nights it has pumped the return pumps dry and emptied to top off water also, total of about 4-6 gal. What do I need to do to fix this? I afraid that I may burn up my 2 mag returns it I leave for a few days. Any suggestions would be helpful.:mad2:

I had one and it worked ok when I first got it but also ran into the problem where I just could not get it to adjust, and after a few days of running I would come home to find it overflowing. But I have heard of people having ok success with them. My next skimmer after the superskimmer was an octopus and I had much better results with it for ruffly the same price, and they are good for doing mods on. Just my opinion though.

Oh, one thing to check on is if the air line tubing is getting salt creep in it. This can sometime cause it to overflow due to not getting as much air.

I also found the venturi would fill up with gunk restricting the flow and overflowing. I would use a pipe cleaner or something similar to clean it. I actually really liked the SS's and hace had three of them, a 60 and 2-125's. I take it you are using it HOB, how about running it in sump and then you wouldn't have the problem of running it dry.

It is in the sump but what happens is as it is pumping water out of the sump it is causing the return chamber of the sump to run out of water also.

Have heard of this happening with the air intake becoming clogged, either at the entrance to the venturi from salt creep or gunk in the silencer, and also people having problems when the small air vent on the output tube becomes clogged with salt creep. Clean those spots and see if that fixes it.
