I Dont Know Whats Wrong?

no well water it could be bad stuff

your issue is probably to much light, id cut it back to 8 hours a day for MH with a hour each side for atinics

I actually only run my halides for 6 hours a day. Reading through your thread, I know it was mentioned but i'm leaning towards the thought that your not acclimating your coral properly to the light. With a 250W bulb and such a small and shallow tank you are going to have to acclimate any new coral you put into the tank so it doesn't get blasted with light right out of the gate. When you add a new coral run the light for only an hour the first day, then 2 the next, 3 after that etc etc. You can even move a little slower than that and it wouldn't hurt.

Ok thanks i will do that the next time. Also i dont have any atinics on my tank would it be fine if i run them 10 hours a day and thats it?

As for the well water do you have a filtration setup on the well, if not you may want to look at having the water tested and see what is in the water, not just for use in the tank, but also your health. I have a well, but also a filtration system on the well. I get a TDS of 48 going into my RODI and 0 out. The maintenance on the filtration system is minimal just a wooven filter that is changed out every 4 months and then a yearly service.

So i decieded to move the corals back into the sand. They werent looking amazing but i dont think they were dieing either. I am going to leave them down there for a couple of days and see if they start looking better down there. Is my lighting ok if i run it for 10 hours and thats it.

What kinda water flow do you have? could that be a problem to? i had a powerhead of mine stop working and i did not know it until my corals on that side of my tank started dieing. dont use well water that would be bad for your corals. i would get a ro unit if u can. buying all that water at the store adds up alot over time. the ro unit will pay off in the long run.

sps like alot of water flow and most lps dont. so if your lps is doing great and sps is not it sounds like not enough water flow.

Post your phosphates, nitrates, nitrites, alk, calcium, strontium, magnesium. Then a full tank shot and shot of your equipment. How far is your light from the water? If you plan on keeping SPS and avoid deaths it would probably be good to have some things like great flow and all the tests related to the success of keeping coral alive so you can keep up with a balance in your reef environment. Trust me I have my own issues with PE and brown fleshy sps and have also killed 2 frags. My leather is huge though and is happy it had medium flow and medium lighting its in the middle 2x250w mh and 2x54w t5's

For flow i have an hydor koralia 3. Nitrates and nitrites are zero. Calcium is 500 ppm and my alk is 150 ppm. My light is about 5 in. I dont have a phosphates test kit but i do have a phoseban(sorry about the spelling) reactor on the back of the tank. I can get any pics right now the camera is in the shop, but my system overflow into the sump which then hits the skimmer and has to pass through filter pads then either gets sucked into the reactor or goes over a trickle filter which trickles over a filter pad with a lot of LR under it then goes into the return pump. I will have to say that since i have put the coral on the sand bed again they are all looking much better and the leather has its tentacles out a lot now. I have my photo period at 9 hours. I dont have any atinics so when the lights go off thats all they get. Should i worry about that?

So thats my set up. My corals are all looking much better now since they have been in the sand bed. Now i am just wondering how long i should leave them there?
