I found a bad snail.

I was looking over my tank and found a white spongy slime around one of my button polyps. There was also little while spots which I guess are eggs.

I looked over at Zoaid and I think it is a predator snail. Here is a pic:

I got the snail out and the slimey stuff with eggs on it out but some eggs got detached and released into the tank.

My questions:

Will a dip alone solve the problem with snails on this piece? And what about the eggs?

im going to post a question in normal terms because i have no biology background. i too found a snail hanging around my zoes and every time he was around the polyps wouldn't open the whole day. snails usually have this door thing that they close when they pull themselves inside their shell. now did that door thing look like a cone? and the snail shell was pretty flat with black and white designs on it? i had two of them and threw them out. i hope they didn't get a chance to lay any eggs. what did the eggs look like anyway. from your pic its kind of looks like we had the same snail

Mine was also a sundial snail. I got the snails out but what about the loose eggs that got away?

if i was you i would find out if does snails go trough a plankton stage. if they you then i wouldn't worry. i have several special of snails laying eggs all the time but no babies ever. good luck, sundial snails suck they always seem to go for the most colorful zoas. grrr

thats why I always expect my zoas when they go into the tank, and sundials needed to be physically removed. A dip will not remove sundials.

As do I but something seemed to hitch hike in any way. The green buttons have been in the tank since the very beginning. It is possible that the snails came in one of the larger buttons I got.

I looked everything over carefully, but some things can get by. The snails could have been inside of a rock or crevice during the inspection.

COLLONISTA SNAILS came be confused with sun dail snails when you are not sure what they look like. they will never get bigger the 1/4in. sun dail can get 2 to 4 time that size. collonista snail will climb all over zoa's and then some. they are good they are not harming the zoa's and only true come out at night. sundails will come out any time looking to snack on your zoa's. i must have 100's of collonista snail in my tank.

for a good pictures of a collonista snail you can look on this page.
