On trying to kill this damn overgrowing Zoa that is overtaking my Tubbs. How can I get the tubs colony off of this infested rock? I'll post a pic.

If you can get the rock out of the tank, frag the rock between the two. I'd cheat to the side of the Tubbs. If you give up a few to the other zoa. Then take the rock and trade for store credit at ????

What's the best way? Dremel? Obviously with eye/mouth and hand protection.

Yinzer, take the rock out and turn your water faucet on hot water and very slow and start to hit the ugly zoas. I did this and it worked very well. I did kill some other zoas but turned out well.

I have tried that method too. It seemed to do well but in a month or two they were back. As soon as I saw them starting back I hit them with Kalk paste and still had to keep fighting them off every once in a while until I just gave up took the whole rock out.

If you try to frag it I would set it on a firm surface and use a chisel and hammer or even a screw driver..... you can also score the back with a dremel as deep as you can get it then chisel it from the front in the direction of the cut. most of the time it will crack from were you struck it to where you grooved it with the dremel.

I think my method worked (forgot to mention) because I also took a screw driver and as I hit it with hot water I scratched the zoas breaking them open.

Thanks, these suckers are everywhere. They now have a bright green dot in the center and a brownish grey tie dye effect on the face they are kind of cool but I have a million of them. If anyone wants to trade for some let me know. I have a couple of rocks covered and some frags in my frag tank. I put my others too close and these grow much faster and seem to eat slot of mysis.

You take a razor blade... scrap every last piece of skin off of the rock and replace... I know it sounds simple but it's failproof.

Chisel or screwdriver. Set the rock on something solid where the chunk you want is pointing up. Work the chisel into a spot under the good zoas, and give it a solid whack with a hammer. The piece you want will chip off.

Then take a razor, and scrape off the bad zoas you may have picked up on the frag. The key is to be scraping a small layer of the rock under the zoa flesh. They won't grow back.

I'd remove the rock, take as large a frag of the tubbs as you can get, and then use whatever technique seems best to reclaim the rest of the rock. Like everyone else is saying, chisel/screwdriver technique and making sure to get the rock broken with none of the pest palys is your best bet.

Sounds like a good demo piece for the Jan meeting! Then whoever wins the bottom half can try to get a Tubbs or two off of it or go with it as a whole piece! Just stipulate that the top half stays with you.

I did it, scored with Dremel and used a screwdriver and a hammer to chop the colony off. I only lost about 10% to the rock. I just removed the old rock and ran boiling water over it. I moved the Tubbs colony FAR AWAY from anything else that would overtake it. That colony of Tubbs started with a 5 head frag from Ray a while back.
