is there a problem with having crushed argonite as my substrate in a 12gal nano instead of sand? i used it because i had some left over from my big tank.

so you mean you got crushed coral instead of sand? Because sand is aragonite (at least the stuff we use for our tanks is).

If thats what you mean, then i'd take it out and get real sand. It will only cause possible problems down the road. Stuff gets stuck in it and makes nitrates and stuff. Which then requires you to vacuum it since you cant put sand sifting animals in it to keep it clean. But by vacuuming it, you're taking out all the beneficial stuff in there too. So imo its just a lose-lose situation. No benefits to it at all.

One thing that i tried and had pretty good success with was just getting some crushed coral and smashing it down to sand. Took forever but it worked.
