Dude! Your pic PROVES you can do it!

I can understand your frustration. I've felt that many times myself. It also tells me that you want to become better.

If you're interested, I'd be happy to share what I know with you.

Here's one of my latest. I'm rather pleased with it. :D

Thanks Dale. I've been working on my photo skills. I get a real sense of contentment and happiness when I get a good shot of my corals. It combines computers, reef keeping and photography all into one big synergistic joy for me.

I have more pics in my gallery (camera icon above). I also just set up a website to show off my better images. Click on the little red www house above my posting to see it.

Ken is right. If you can take one you just have to duplicate it. When I started I had a notebook with me and wrote down Fstops, Shutter speed and film speed. Untill I got the hang of it I could look back at the ones that worked and do it again.
The good news is that I think aquarium photography and corals in general are really hard to take photos of. You have to balance lighting, movement, and depth of field to get a photo to be proud of. Plus if you are like me and have a plexi tank you have to shht dead on or suffer from distortions.
Reefbass makes it look pretty easy, but I am sure he will tell you it took a little practice.

Reefbass took a look at your website and it looks great. I love the black background. I tried all sorts with mine and settled on a
Green tint. Nice pic also.

Clay don't give up and if you need help let me know...Craig.

O.k. My question is can you take a decent pic with a regular digital cam. I have a canon power shot sd630. I would not expect anything like what you are taking Ken but something nice to show would be cool.

Craig, thanks for the kind words about my site. It's still developing but I decided to go ahead and put something up.

Dale, yes you can take a decent pic with a regular point and shoot digicam. Start by shooting straight through the glass. Use a tripod if possible or something steady and 2 second timer so pushing the shutter release button doesn't jar the camera causing image blur. Use manual focus if possible. Remember all cameras have a minimum distance from subject requirement and so if you can't focus, try backing up a bit.

Here are three pics I shot with one of my point and shoot cameras. Borealis:

I find Photobucket very easy to use with this site. Creating an account there is free. You upload your pic to that site and then click the "IMG" link below the pic to copy the url info to your clipboard. Pasting the contents of the clipboard into your message entry input and your pic magically shows up when the message is displayed.

You can always use the "Preview Reply" button instead of "Submit Reply" to see your posting as it would be displayed before it's posted to test the link in your message.

Hope this helps!
