I Hate Charter!!!

:furious: Just when you need to get to work or you just want to come to the Reef boards, Charter drops the ball. It just ticks me off to know I spend X amount dollars per month on internt/cable tv and half the time it's out. Ok, not literally, but you get the point. The Charter office is literally 100 yards from my place and they still can't get it right. Maybe if I chuck a rock over there it will wake someone up! It never happens when you're cleaning or messing with the tank, but when you want to watch a movie or get on the internet..... they suck!!! :mad2:

Just a rant - sorry. I was going to post in The Lounge, but thought it was more of a 'local' thing. Ahh I feel better. :twitch:

Don't be sorry. I was coming down the street and my Neighbor stopped me to ask if I had Cable. His service has been down for two days and charter still can't give him a reason. Thank god I don't have them for anything. He has them for Cable, Internet, and there Phone service. All of his services are down.

See, that's what's bull. I've got cable/internet. Decided against the phone because of their track record. It's the consistancy thing I just don't understand. And like I said, I can spit and have it hit their building and my service is still sketchy. I guess this is what happens when you have a monopoly.

I dropped them on phone and internet and have been very happy that I did. I switched to at&t internet/phone, I hate the company, but the service has been reliable so far. I might cut out my land line phone all the way and just keep cell??

We don't ever seem to have a problem here with the bundled package. The only time the phone service was out was during that long power outage there is a signal splitter that runs out of power after about 6 hours. After a day I realized that all I had to do was supply it with power and I had phone again.

I have always had Charter over the last 6 years, mostly Internet, but last year I switched to the phone as well. It seems to do a good job. Only a couple times it has been out.

The only thing I think they mess up is the billing, they cannot seem to combine the two bills.

I cannot get DSL, so this is my only option.

charter is a horrible horrible company and i pray for their death.
my internet was out last week.
the problem was 100% on their end. couldn't get anyone who even spoke english. somehow i got someone scheduled to come out and look at it. well then it started working again. i tried to call and tell them to cancel, but that was impossible. so the guy shows up and i told him his tech department in india wasted his time. he laughed and made some racial slurs and left.

unless you are in a area where cell service is crap, i can't think of a good reason to keep a land line. i haven't had one in the last 5 years.

I just dropped them a few months back. My cable TV service only worked about 50% of the time. They just couldn't provide a strong enough signal for the Moxi box to work.

I cant complain about the service but then again I only have internet and phone ... rarely have any issues with the internet ... never have issues with the phone ... although i only use it about 10% of the time ( only reason i have it is for emergencys and its only 10 bucks a month) .. the rest is my cell. But when i do have issues and call thier so called customer service sucks big time.

My service was on the blink off and on (more off) for over a month. After hours on the phone with people in the Phillipines, Michigan and their idiotic automated menu and different people in the US technical and customer service department, I finally got someone to come out to the house. They did not come in the house, just looked at the yard.

Some tech guy called me and said it was amazing I had ANY service because the signal in my yard was so weak. Then there was no follow-up on that problem, so, when it was out again the next week, I called and spent over two hours on the phone trying to get a person that would even acknowledge that there was a problem at my yard with the signal...no one knew anything about it...I also spent about 10 minutes on the phone with the Phillipine support...when I get a Phillipine support line now, I just say "thanks, but no thanks" and hang up...they can NOT help you in a meaningful way.

Finally, I called to disconnect my service and was given to a supervisor in customer service who spoke The King's English. I really let her know exactly what I had been going through the last month and they sent someone out that day, gave me a month of internet for free and apologized profusely.

The problem is getting a customer service rep who can help you is next to impossible. The fact that they have outsourced to another country has me thinking it is time to switch ISP, but I imagine most of them are doing the same thing. It is a sad state.

Charter is the devil. Our internet goes out all the time. Worse than that, though, is their unbelievably bad customer service. We are on their auto-pay system, and they double-billed us for $90 worth of service - I had to threaten reversing the charges with my Visa company before they finally credited the money back. They never apologized or even acknowledged their screwup. In fact, I talked with someone on a chat conversation via their website, and she was incredibly rude and didn't acknowledge any mistakes on their part. I have written other complaints to them and never got a single response. Terrible!

If I had another option for cable, I would jump on it in a heartbeat.

FWIW, I am going to be getting a new computer around January and I plan on running that one with satellite. This will hopefully ensure that I always have internet connection.

They are a prime example of why monopolies are (supposedly) illegal.

Good article, inwall75...

Richard Kantner of Overland, Mo., wrote to say Charter technicians missed six appointments to come to his house, dating back to Aug. 12. At least twice, he or his wife had to leave work early to meet the workers -- had they arrived. He's still waiting.

"This has to be the most ridiculous event in my whole life," Kantner wrote.

I'm not exactly sure how it all works, but apparently towns contract with Charter to be their net provider? At any rate, the mayor of our town and several others here in the metro east are forming their own group to make a high power impact on Charter because alot of people over here aren't happy with them. I forget how many towns are involved, but there are enough to have some punch when they go to Charter and tell them that they are going to cut their contracts with them. Not sure what we'll do if that happens as I get both net and cable through them. I'm another one, though, who will not get their phone service based on the service you get with net and cable.

As some of you may recall I have been haveing issues with Charter since last winter. My internet can not hold signal. I loss it all the time. I spent the entire month of June back and forth with Charter, on the phone at least 3 hours a day. Back and forth, They send someone out, they say my signal is weak, they need to send someone else out the boost it. Then they turn off my tv before they leave, for no reason at all. Then it takes over a week to get them back out the turn my tv back on. Then it get good. In June they apoligize for every thing, and tell my they will be giving me and credit of $25. dollars on July's bill. I also have autopay, So in July I call them to make sure they are going to give my the credit. They say sure, sure, We have it right here. We are only going to take out 69. dollars on the 8th of July. Well that is the same time car payment, car insurance and rent are due, so it is a very tight time for me. But I should have just enough to cover every thing. Well Charter doesn't take out only 69. they take out 95 dollars and bounce all my other payment all the hell. When I call them, they first try telling me that they can not change the amount of autopay. I will alway take out 95.00. After argueing with them for well over two hours. They tell my that in Aug they will credit me with the 25 dollars, Well Aug not to my surprise they tank out 95.again. I call them go back and forth, In Sep my bill will be credited with the 25.00. I get the bill for Sept. guess what the bill is $114. now. I call them to see where my credit is. And why it went up 20 buck., Charter informs me, I did get my credit, that is why my bill is only $114. and not 140. What the hell, All I have is reg internet. and cable tv. not High Def, Not every movie channel. Just TV and internet. But Charter did send me a very nice card in the mail, Telling me they valued my patronage. and I got a coupon for a free movie for the movie channel. I don't even have movie channels. What a load of Crap. I would drop Charter in a heart beat, but I live in apartments and the land lord doesn't want a bunch of satilite dishes.
Sorry now I vented!!!

ya it's crap. if there were an alternative, i would take it.
i hear even worse things about centurytel DSL. so i won't be doing that.

I'm right there with you, they made me take 2 1/2 days off work to meet them for my initial install when I bought my house. FINALLy got them there, then had a cable running across my yard for over 3 months! I called and said I would bury it myself and they promised a "priority" (withing 3 days) and it would be done. All that to the side...they have also screwed my billing, sold me 2(two) cable modems? for some crazy reason....took me a couple months to get my reimbursement for that. On top of it all, when I went in my attic to look at my a/c system, they guy that installed the charter had the entire thing screwed up..I mean a 3rd grader could of done a better job without "ruining" my attic and walls to the outside. I heard about a petition a while back about allowing competition like road runner or something...I am ALL for this, I am willing to do anything I can to get them here. I moved from TX where there was competition and didn't have half the problems, and still 20% cheaper since it wasn't a monopoly.....to me its almost like price gouging us! ...just thought I'd throw my rant out there too....just the word charter gets me fired up now days....
