I HATE my hex tank....

I hate the shape because I cant find lighting or a hood for it...

I figured I would make my own hood but the lighting is becoming an issue, I dont even know what to do...just frustrated.

They make some pretty neat lighting now that you just clip on. Personally if I had a hex, I'd do seahorses, or an anemone/clownfish tank, providing it was large enough.

Well you can stick with FO for now and then it won't matter. A lot of people start out like that. That is a nice sized one, definately more possibilities. Maybe go through some of the photo galleries of tanks and see if you can get some ideas. I'd grow prolifera caulerpa, have seahorses, and maybe a few small colorful fish that don't tend to be aggressive.

clamp-ons seems to be getting more popular. I love them, and they can be easily used for other projects. don't need a hood with a clamp-on

yo could also just measure out to the 2 sides and see how big it is and get that size light providing its wide enough at that point i think a 55 hex is 24 inchs wide from one side directly accross to the other so a 24 inch light would work

yeah, i have 2 24 inch flourecents on it now, they are just 2 single strip "under counter" lights. I may just add 2 more of these and leave it at that until I can get a better setup.

Whats the deal with a seahorse tank???? I have had 3 people tell me it would make a cool seahorse tank, is it the shape or???

LOL, because of the shape you are limited to the kinds of fish that would do well in the tank. Fish that are not big swimmers. Which would mean seahorses. :D And clownfish/anemone is in that group, just need more light for the anemone. Perching fish would also do.
