I hate you green hair algae!!

I get RODI from my LFS. I'm pretty sure it was a few things; me over feeding, couple deaths and must be coming outta my LR. This tank has been up since sept so I'm hoping it's just a cycle

I wonder if it's my sand bed too... It's shallow and gets blown around here n there. Not a sand storm, but still. I've got good flow. Should I add more? How long do rocks leach out phos if they are doing that??

Alk is good, ph is good. Carbon I've used is clearfx pro. Tank has a big bioload as is so no more fish for me lol.

You should so get a scrubber.
An algae scrubber has been the ultimate solution for me. I didnt make the algae dissapear I just make it grown in there :)

I hate you green hair algae!!

Swapped out my GFO and carbon today. Got em from bull reef supply. Will do again in two weeks or a month depending on parameters.

Dosed 6ml h2o2 as well and lights are dimmed by 80%

GFO is really really good. The one from BRS is good too.
Just dont be too agressive with it, it can turn your system upside down easily.

That's what I've heard too. I started out w the recommended. After two weeks I'll check parameters then prob swap it out for new and check again. I think I've for a good regimen and should have this nasty algae under control. Glad I started before it became out of hand. But now I'm better prepared and learned a lot. Def gonna keep both reactors running for nice good clean water! Haha

What happens if you're too aggressive w the GFO?!

Well if you are too aggressive with GFO, your PO4 will go down TOO fast and you dont want that. It is really really really bad for SPS corals.
You should start with less than recommended, that's what I did.

Good luck with the battle, I had it take hold of my first JBJ 12 gallon tank and was never able to get rid of it before it took over the entire tank. Ended up starting over and scrubbing the rocks down. I feel your frustration...good luck!

Damn that truly sucks!! So far after day 3 it seems the h2o2 may be working. Seems like the critters are eating it more too. We shall see. I'm really hoping I don't have to start over lol. Part of reefing I guess

I tossed 7 turbo's into my biocube and within 3 weeks the thick matt of GHA on the back wall was gone, same with any growing on any rocks or glass. I pulled a few and handed them off to friends so they didn't starve after they ate through everything so fast! Bummer that yours haven't worked out yet, hopefully the peroxide and some time will get things moving.

It's slowly working. The turbos and sea hare have been munching. I don't have a lot of growth and it hasn't taken over the tank at all. Just hate seeing it. But seems to be slowly going away. Slowly lol

Patience my friend, patience. Slow retreat is still slow retreat which leads to..

VICTORY.

:dance::dance:

Glad it's working out, even if slowly.
