As the title says. F you pg&e

Apparently power loss was at 830am due to a tree falling knocking out power lines. Yea natural disaster. I get it. But man. No notification
As soon as I found out. Rushed home at 4pm. Took me a hour to get home. Came home to stiff bodies... my bellus pair is dead. My coris wrasse is dead. My blonde naso is barely holding on. My yellow is no where to be found. My pintail wrasse is dead. Lunate wrasse is dead. Orange back is dead. Still over 10 diff fish all un accounted for. Not to mention my anemones.....

After just finally getting the tank back together from a crash. This might be the straw that breaks it. I got battery operated air stones in the tank currently. Any advice on how I can keep the tank warm?

Tank is around 68 any quick methods to heat or anyone recommend a place to buy a cheap generator

So when this happens. What is it that kills the fish? No circulation or low temp?

Sorry this happened :(

I think it's a mix of both. Yea if I had the EcoTech battery backups that would have kept water moving. But then temp also..... lots of could haves should haves...... lesson learned if I stick around in this hobby plan for it next time.

Oh crap. Sorry to hear that. Man, you're on a string of bad luck!

Do you not have apex? It's one of the things apex is good for.

But hard to raise temps without power. If you have a friend nearby with power, boiling water in Nalgene bottles?

68 degrees is low but not catastrophic. Fish die more because there is no gas transfer without water movement breaking the surface (CO2 builds up and O2 declines), or return pump bringing back water oxygenated by the skimmer.

damn dude, sorry to hear that! When you get things back up and running let me know and I'll hook you up with some sticks! Dont give up.

you could boil some water and toss it in a container and toss that into the sump. When we had that heat wave couple months back i had to freeze water bottles and toss that into the tank. Sure its not a long time fix but if you only need it for the intermediate until you get a generator / power back , may be worth trying vs letting it just sit.

sorry to hear about all the loss.

Oh man this is a nightmare scenario, I'm so sorry to hear it. I hope they got your power back on overnight :(

I agree with what people have said about flow and oxygenation being more critical than temp.

For the future and others reading, PGE does have a notification service but you have to sign up for it through your account:
https://www.pge.com/en_US/residential/outages/alerts/alerts.page?WT.mc_id=Vanity_outagealerts

I tried several power backup solutions over the years but eventually got a whole-house automatic battery backup system.

wow, damn man...really sorry to hear about your livestock... also surprised there was no notification, i feel like that would be protocol for pg&e

Thanks for everyone that reached out and offered insight. Power came back on around 145am. Surprising how fast you fall asleep just laying in the dark with nothing to do. When I woke up around 2am. Tank temps were moving back up. Lights where out didn't want to disrupt the tank more so I left it as it. So far I know for a fact my pintail wrasses / rosescale trio and bellus angel pair are gone. I was able to see the emerald crabs eating what was left of them. On a side note having an effective clean up crew is good and bad. They get to work fast but sometimes they work so fast that if you don't notice a fish missing , looking for the body after is tough. I'll be able to get a better understanding of what I'm working with later today. Hopefully it didn't wipe out everything. A very valuable lesson learned. Signed up for PGE notifications. Check your equipment. My apex for some reason didn't email me , gotta check it's programming and heart beat notification. Have a back up plan! Ways to keep O2 levels up and water movement and HEAT!!
Thanks guys.
