i have a question for all of you

my tank recently crashed and i lost everything and now I'm planning to start a new build. What i want to know form you guys is what you want to change from your current set up, examples tank size, lighting, sump, ect. we all want to change something about our tanks.

I agree with a taller stand, with easier access to the inside (I went with a stock stand, still wish I'd built my own).
My next tank will have a coast to coast overflow with a bean animal overflow.
I also would have glued and used rods in my rock.

Don't rush back into things. I spent well over a year gathering equipment and planning my latest tank. I didn't want to cut any corners but didn't have all the money at once so I saved and waited and bought what I could until I had everything. Patients is key, also get a quarantine system if you don't already have one.

this. And this more than anything else in the world. I lost pretty much everything because I believed other reefers when they said their tank was clean and/or I just did a dip and put stuff in my tank.

Never, ever, again. Dedicated QT, and frankly you need two, which sucks, but fish and coral need completely different QT protocols.

Plumbing and wiring my system was something I rushed. So I am selling the tank and doing my next one right. Not rushing anything this time. Also starting from scratch, no live rock or live sand. Also I will be dipping everything bayer and Getting a qt tank for fish. Do it right, do it once.

I might be a bit paranoid, but I don't think a dip is enough. Seems to me that we have a major pest problem in the coral world today, and an actual QT system should be built for corals as well. I know that's not practical for everyone, but it's my .02. I won't put anything in my tank that does not pass three clean dips and show no signs of trouble after two weeks in QT.

Yes, I might be crazy overboard, but it's what I believe in. YMMV of course. I certainly had and have seen many nice tanks that survived with a dip only model. But I've also lost years of work to that method too, so that informs my logic.

Regardless, I'm glad you are doing it again, and doing it "right" - of course it never ends up right. I built my dream tank and still am making mods to this day. Well not today because I'm 1200 miles away from my tank, but you get the point...
