I was admiring my tank tonight and noticed a crab in the top corner, when I got up to have a closer look it moved like he was on fire:mad2:

I don`t know if its a good thing or not? What should I do with it? :hammer:

I have a Partner shrimp and Gobie in my tank as well as some corals. What could this crab do if anything?

depends on what the crab looks like.. Big claws usually means meat eater. I have had a couple of 'gorilla crabs' in my tank. Hard as hell to catch.

congrats. they're hard to get rid of

You're talking about the ones in the tank, right?

Without knowing what type it is, some of the bad things it can be convicted of: Eating snails, attacking small sleeping fish, eating ornamental shrimp, attacking and eating hermits, and worst of all...........polyp munching. From my personal experience, the only acceptable crab in a reef tank are commensal acro crabs, porcelain crabs. Even hermits will in time kill off most snails. Happy crabbing!

Hope it's not a hairy crab. I had 3 of these hitchhikers in my tank and they made a meal out of my zoas...I would put a bottle inside your tank and lean it up again a pice of liverock. Put some food in the bottom of the bottle...Crab goes for the food and gets trapped...It's as simple as that...Good Luck

I had one too! What a pain to catch. One afternoon I saw him climb up into a large rock, so I quickly moved a couple of rocks, grabed that one and headed for the kitchen. I could see him, and finally got him out with a "needle nose" pliers.

YAY a topic i'm good at! i had total 6 in my Nano tank (15 gallon).... i tried the bottle, it works some times, get a measuring cup instead works easier it's low and don't have to lean it just put it beside the rock and (trust me) they'll find a way to get at the food. downside i lost my peppermint 'cause he went for the meatand decided to stick around in there until the gorilla ate him, caught the crab but lost a shrimp, also i caught many hermits in there. best way and fastest for me was to find out which rock the crab was in put it in a bucket for a while if it don't come out put the rock in a fresh water bath, they all jumped ship ASAP. lost some good bacteria and that's it. worth it for a "crab free" reef. do it quick if your gobey is small, my lemon gobey got a good nip while he slept.
