How many times has this happened and whered you get the plates? Seems awfully quick for a plate to die in a healthy tank without a preexisting condition. What is your substrate?
Sometimes the contact of the fungia and substrate can cause nitrogen fixation points on the coral...Do you have flow or a DSB under the fungia? Also some fungias contain bacteria in their skeleton that have a nifH gene, a gene known for causing nitrogen fixation. Maybe testthe water near the fungia for amm, tirte, and trate.
I think it is your alk that is killing it. I dont know many that keep there alk at 12 esp fish stores. Could be that they aren't adusting like your other corals when you put them in so they end up dying. Or you could of gotten bad fungias.
