i made post the other day about clowns and got no ansewers. i just need to know if clown fish have to go with the same kind as each other. I've seen pics with black and with ocellaris's with perculas. Can i do that? I love the black and whites and my tank raised regular ocellaris's won't host. so someone let me know whats going on thanx

If you want a pair, it would be preferable to keep two ocellaris or two perculas. It is possible to have an ocellaris/percula pair, but I would suggest you keep both the same species.

You can definitely have a black and white with a regular colored ocellaris. That's not a problem. If you already have a clown, just get another one that is noticeably smaller. The smaller will remain the male and the larger will become the dominant female.

Just to clarify garygb's comments a little further, it depends on whether the black and white clown you're considering is an ocellaris or something else. Fish that are sold as "black perculas" are usually ocellaris, but saddlebacks and some others can also be black and white.
