I have the biocube hqi and i want to convert it to led i don't know anything about lighting so what would i need like how many watts, blue led, white led,etc... I want to it to be as powerful as the metal halide. i was looking at this http://www.ledwholesalers.com/store/...&productId=407
would that be powerful enough? suggestions/comments appreciated i don't know anything about lighting so if someone could tell me some basics or give me the resources to find out that would be sick :D

I just built a dIY led. I used rapidled dot com and could not be more pleased. You might want to look into the 12 led kit for a mixed reef or add an additional 6 leds (18) for a major sps tank. I have the 24 led kit on a 24" deep tank and it is much more light than my old 2x150w HQI's

tagging along. i'll be looking for something to try to retrofit into a bc29 hood. i'm sure it exists someplace. would like to build it myself too.

i have the biocube hqi so im trying to find an led that's as strong as the mh go to rapidled.com they have a kit to fit the regular biocubes also the one i found seems pretty legit i will probly order it and even if it doesnt work i will keep it for when i start my next tank which is going to be a fowl

Well the one you linked is using 1watt LEDs that probably are not going to put out much lumens/watt, but it will probably keep SPS fine, you will just consume more electricity for the same amount of light compared to a CREE built fixture. Rapidled lights are going to require assembly and soldering so it might not be for you.

well when it comes to consuming electricity anything is better than the mh. If it will put out enough for sps im takin it plus the price is amazing almost to good to be true. When it comes to soldering i am actually very good i know i could do the rapidled kit but i 1. don't really have the time 2. they are kinda pricey. I don't mind spending extra money on a led fixture as long as it's good enough for what i need it to do which is everything. I was also thinking of getting the jbj 28g led nano cube but i figured this would be a lot less of a hassle and more efficient. Right now i don't have any sps in my tank im waiting for my tank to get more stable and i just started dosing cal, alk.
