I Like Different Fosh at the Roght Times

I have been noticing a trend over the past few months. One day I'll find a fish species I haven't seen or heard of before, and fall in love with it. Do research on it over the next day or two. Within that time span, the exact species (usually a harder to find fish in the hobby) is on DD or in stock at another retailer. An example that just happened. I discovered C. larvatus yesterday while searching the web for butterflyfish. And what do ya know? There is one on DD tonight!

There is the other extreme... never finding the fish you want. Wild bicinctus clowns come to mind....

That seems to be what most people run into. I have a feeling by time I have a tank ready for some of the fish I want, I won't be able to find them very easily.

Sorry about the title butchering... Big thumbs and tiny buttons on a phone screen don't mix.

That larvatus on DD now is so tempting... it's a nice size. I know people are always saying to get the smallest you can with the idea that they will adjust to foods in captivity better. But my experience has been that tiny mouth equals tiny stomach, and requires tiny food particles... it's tough to keep a fish fat on particles :) Plus, again IME, really small fish have a significantly smaller window of time to start eating well before they reach that "point of no return."

Peter, you don't know how many times I have added it to my cart... I can easily set up my QT tank for it, but I don't think I'm around enough to feed it if it were to not take to pellets or flake quickly. I may try one after I have an established tank around mid-summer if one pops up. Should have an automatic frozen feeder to feed "particles" once an hour or so.

That's the plan any ways.
