I love my new S. Tapetum!

It's Spring!!!!!!!
Bought it at the frag swap a couple weeks ago. I had it up on the rock, but in a couple days it moved to where it is now.

:inlove:

I keep wishing I also bought the light blue one. They would have looked great next to each other. I definately want more!

Here's a question . . . I'm thinking about adding a mandarin to the tank. Anyone see an issue with the anemone?

That's a maxi yes?

I think you'd be fine adding a mandarin to your tank re: the 'nem and it. I have 4 maxi's in a 40b with a mandy and no issues thus far...been about 6 months+ so not super long by any means.

Hey Lisa :)
Nem looks cute!
I'm interested in the spot it's chosen. I think I have a clone of that same nem and he picked a low, kind of out-of-the-way spot as well. Maybe nems of the same coloration exhibit similar behaviors?

About hosting - in my tank, the light colored porcelain crab hosts the biggest maxi-mini; most of the time. The black/purple porcelain crab is very shy, so not suited to your purpose. I think a porcelain would be unlikely to host your maxi-mini because of the placement. They like good flow to filter feed. Also.... it's seems like the nem was bothered by the crab for a while (moving around some). It eventually got used to it and seems happy, but I would wait until you have a bigger one out in the open - not that you can't get the crab now and the nem later! They're super cute!
Also... the sexies like the maxis too - in and out, not necessarily hosting. But sexies sometimes have inappropriate appetites :)
This is just my own personal experience over the past several months. Take it our leave it :)

For some reason my brain went to clowns re: the hosting. lol

I def. need to get some more critters to enjoy some maxi 'nem "lovin'" ;) I need to research how sexy's and porc. crab fare with the rest of that tanks inhabitants. The main thing I'm worried about is how the mated pair of blue banded shrimp would react.

nice tapetum!

L and L.... my somewhat educated guess regarding your tapetums chosen locations: it's a reaction to them being fragged.

How so Gary? Where would you think they would locate themselves had they not been propagated recently?

Do you mean that it's healing and therefore selected a low-light/flow area?

Thanks for the info Liz! If I do get a porcelain crab, I'm hoping to get the light colored one.

Great, thanks!

Ha, that is one of my clones!
Hey! Nice to "see" you again! Just out of curiosity how long ago was it fragged? How large is the parent? Do you spot feed yours? So you think it will move back up to the top of the rock once it has settled in more? I want more!!! :D

Thanks but I was not the seller at the swap. That person and I have traded Maxi's a few times. Good Guy. I think that frag is 6-8 weeks old. It looks complete and a circle. They will find a spot and never move. I have some on top of rock, underneath...they just pick a spot and hang out. They tend to group (like in my picture) They are super stubborn compared to RBTA when it comes to movement and impossible to remove from a rock. I feed mine, shrimp, krill, mysis once a week. Good luck with them.

Thanks for the info! You have a great bunch there! The seller did mention that they like to group together. I really like that about them. Have you ever had any issues with them eating fish? I've heard that they can.

Nope, I have heard that rumor but It has never happened to me personally. Feed/Frag/Trade and you will have a nice assorted color colony in a short amount of time.

I'm glad he's doing well, they usually try to settle in a safe spot. Once they get comfortable and their foot gets a good hold they will extend further out into the light. Unfortunately the blue ones are harder to come by and all got snatched up at the swap, heck i had to trade back with Austin to get a two tone blue frag back. Just keep feeding him and you'll be amazed how much bigger he'll get.

jacwil, those are awesome!

I've tried to feed it a couple times, but my melanurus wrasse steals the food. :rolleye1: I have to wait until he goes to bed.

Thx Lisa! I may prop them at some point but it would only be in half...there's no way I could chop them into 32 pcs like a sheet pizza lol.

When I target feed mine, the shrimp always come "scampering" over and try to rob them of their dinner. I have to swat them away and keep them at bay with the baster :uzi:
