I miss my Quoy's Parrot.

AcroporAddict

There is no substitute.
About a month ago I was sitting in a recliner next to my 465 gallon SPS tank, and I saw a flash of some activity in the tank in my peripheral vision. I turned my head towards the tank to see my beautiful Quoy's Parrot slam into one of the tank's metal cross braces above the water surface, then in a diagonal flash crash into a big acropora colony, breaking a piece off that was 3/4" thick, then sink to the bottom deader than a door nail. I got him into a specimen cup, tried holding him in a current, etc, but he was dead. After about 15 minutes of attempted fishy CPR, I called the Code off.

I miss him. Easily the prettiest fish in the tank. Great dither fish for my powder blue tang. Always getting chased, but never caught. Used to attack the front glass every night. The poopingest fish I have ever had in a reef tank.

Freaky way for him to go. I think he may have had a run in with one of the tangs low in the tank, and shot off at an angle that collided him with the tank cross brace.

Thank you for the kind words.

I decided to try a mated pair of blue throat trigger fish in the tank. I may get another Quoy's sometime, but figured this was the time to try a Trig. My tank is pretty big, but I already have a Powder Blue, Kole, Naso, Unicorn, and Desjardini Tang, along with a GoldFlake and BlueLine Angel, and about 15 other smaller fish, mostly Anthias. Unicorn Tang is about 9 inches now, and the Desjardini is about 6.5" as well.

Tank measures 96" x 40" x 28".

I'm sorry to hear this! :( Quoyis are one of my favorites! I saw a bunch of them while snorkeling in the Caribbean and they definitely get huge!
