King Nothing!
I really wanted to come to the meeting tonight, hope it was a good one.

However I got wrapped up in a little projected I was workign on. I started building my sump today and made some good progress. Here are a few pics.

Things got a little messy.

I built a little jig and figured I should practice a little cutting the groves for the fug overflow. Looking pretty good so far. Think im ready for the real deal.

This took me by far the longest for obvious reasons. Came out nice though if i say so myself.

Here is everything all cut and layed out. On to the assembly process.

A quick mock up to make sure everything fits the way expected.

Well on its way...

About all I could get done tonight. I should be able to get the assembly done tomorrow. We shall see..

What are the dimensions of it? Ive been trying to find a tank to put under my 55 as a refugium but the max width of a tank would only be 10 inches and no one makes 10 inch wide tank. So i'll prabably have to make one.

The dimension are 54 x 16 x 16. I made it specifically to fit under my tank. I have a side door and wanted it to be able to be taken in and out if necessary.

Decided now was a good time to do a partial water test. Only filled it up half way as I have yet to put the top braces on it and didn't want to add the strees.

Top braces installed and intake chamber installed.

Here she sits in all her beauty!!!!

Gonna fill it tomorrow and let it sit for 2 days full. Didn't have any leaks today, but want to be sure. Should put me online for a weekend install.

Thanks Marcye.. I appreciate the comments.

I still have to route the edges, which I will do tomorrow, but im pretty happy with how it came out. Learned alot about what to and what not to do along the way. But considering its the first time I have worked with acrylic im pretty happy with it. Hope it works as well as it looks.. :)

I need to get down to SITC and say hello sometime I hear nothing but good things.

Not sure if I ever posted this, but this was my original design. I varied a little bit as you can see, but this got me started.

Good job on the sump.

On your plumbing design though...How do you plan on priming the suction tube? through the drain?

when you decide to drain the sump, are you assuming the water will exit through the 1.5 pipe and no go further to the .75 inches pipes to the tank?

I think your U tube as a suction from the sump has the problems that U tube drains have. If enough air accumulates at the top, then your pump might lose it's prime, run dry and possibly burn up. (if this is even a possibility with the pump you are using)

I would just drill the sump, you seem to have a very good handle on working with acrilic.

BM,

Thanks for the feedback on the sump.

I put up that diagram just as a refrence of where I originally started, actually I have a few more before that, but here is a pic of how it will actually function.

I am definetly drilling the sump as the return is now in the center. The up and over would work, but your right his is much more simple.

Finished and Under Water Test

Well I finally got it all finished up.

I routed the edges and filled it with water to test it for a few days.

I have it set on a couple rows of paper towels so even the smallest leak would be detected. So far so good...
