I need a lot of sand

I have been asking around what type of sand to use in a fuge that will have a 12" sand bed. is there any other sugestion of sand without spending a ton of money. HD, Lowes, or concrete supplie co.

The old Southdown brand being sold at HD will be your best bet. It is very fine grain so it is tough to use in the main tank with alot of flow, but refugium is great.

Cannot remember the new name it is being sold under, but someone here will know, or run a search for Southdown.

I am using a 100 gallon rubbermaid container for my fuge, I figure why not. I have the room, any disadvantages?

No, none disadvantage whatsoever. I was just curious. Most folks build refugiums from existing sumps or bare tanks. The big rubbermaid container clarifies. That should be big enough to grow mangroves in serious quantities.

I' ve used the kolorscape stuff for a cichlid tank. It raises the pH, but is mostly silica based. Should be fine for a fuge.
