I need ammonia

I've been "cycling" about two weeks now and am going bare bottom this time. I was going to cycle using snails but buying them separately is too expensive. Right now all I have in the tank is about 100lbs of dry rock and am not going to buy any "live" rock for that awesome marked up premium. What do you guys recommend? I was thinking cocktail shrimp....

You can use some of my W/C (dirty) water if you want... I'll likely be doing another change this coming weekend... :D

Lots of people do it that way... Just takes longer... But its a LOT cheaper to do it w/o LR or LS... Some people just use a few pieces to "seed" the tank...

The best source of ammonia is...ammonia. Much cheaper than shrimp, begins immediately, and it is a 'known-quantity.' Also, it'll make your floors shine. ;)

This is the standard practice in FW fishless-cycling. It's like $1 in wal-mart in the cleaning isle. I've got a huge honkin' bottle that will outlive me since only a few tsps-tbs are needed each time.

Is that "W/C" in the British sense? (He did say he was looking for ammonia!)

I can think of a cheaper source that anybody can get for free with minimal work...

Not quite as pure and the specific gravity can be a bit off tho!

Believe it or not, I've read at least one place where somebody did it. Wish I could remember where.

Threads like this is why I lurk over here!

My cat peed in some dry sand I had and I just rinced it a dab and figured it would just kick start a cycle fast!
