I need help from the masters

Ok My issue has gone on long enough and i need to nip this issue in the butt. I have a 24 gallon aquapod with a bunch of sps and lps. My problem is that for some reason heaters (2 stealth heaters tried and just recently the hydor brand) dont work in my tank. How do I fix this situation? What happens is the heater will work for a while then turn off and will not turn back on. So when my mh goes off, my temperature plumets 8 or 9 degrees (which we all know is a killer). I am fortunate enough to actually keep everything alive (although the growth in my tank is poor). Please any help or suggestions is much appreciated.

Strange. From what I've read, it seems more common for a heater switch to fail in the ON position and overheat a tank than to fail OFF and let the tank get cold. Maybe the ON failures just get more attention, because they tend to be mass death situations.

How long is "for a while"? Do they run for days, weeks, or months before they quit turning on?

Could you have a faulty GFi circuit; did you try the heaters on another outlet?

that is where I would look first. Normally heaters fail in the on position. Sounds more electrical to me.

too cool?

too cool?

15 years into this hobby, a tank running cold is not a common problem. Especially in this climate. Electronic and digital thermometers are not worth a crap. Get you a REAL glass thermo and find out what your temp really is, 1st thing in the morning, before the lights come. And the temp right before they go off. I would also need to know what temp you keep the room the tank is setting in. With this info, I should be able to solve your problem. [violation]

Ok so update from the heater mystery. It seems to be doing something the light turns on when I up the temp on the heater. there doesnt seem to be an issue with electrical everything else I have plugged in there works and I have moved the plugs around as well to test that. I swear last year I couldnt keep my tank cold enough. Well with new issues showing up I guess its another opportunity to learn. Unfortunately Im kind of stuck with cheap stuff for a while im a starving college student. Maybe if I put a controller on my wish list Hannukah Harry will visit me and leave me a gift.

Are you saying the lights come on when the heater does?
