I need opinons/help

Swanwillow

goby girl
ok, so at the local mall, theres this nail shop. owned by a I'm told nice man (blah blah)

the local lfs takes care of the tank, and sold him the fish. He knows nothing about the tank other than to put fresh water in it for top-offs. (god, I HOPE thats what she ment when she told me... otherwise hes doing water changes with fresh water-but I DOUBT IT)

anyways... three years old. no problem, right?
its a 30 gallon-ish breeder tank.

with a panther grouper, and some sort of wrasse, each a foot long.

I'm thinking about how to go about educating both the LFS AND the nail shop owner, cause he doesn't know what is in his tank.

I was thinking of printing the page off of live aquaria about panther groupers- needs 300 gallon tank, ect... making like, 10 copies of it. giving some to the LFS, and some to the nail guy: via my friend that goes there every 2 weeks, and myself, whenever I go there.

I KNOW they nail salon guy does not know what he has, he thinks is a molly or something... but the LFS that sold it too him was proud of it 3 years ago when I was setting up my tank. I never really go to the mall, and have never personally been in the nail salon, but the tank is set up right inside the door, and you can see the poor things sitting side-by-side, unable to go anywhere cause of all the LR.

so, what should I do?

It would pain me to see, but I think your offered opinion (and some educational materials) might be the best you can go. If you don't have an ongoing relationship with this guy (as in, you're not a customer that comes in every week), you're just going to be some "animal activist nut" to most people, I think. Your average person who doesn't really care that much (shown by the purchase of a 30 gal tank for a huge fish he knows nothing about) is not going to run out and get a 300 gal tank on unsolicited advice from a stranger.

At this take out viet food place, they have this 55 gal tank where they used to keep 4, count em 4, large koi, each give or take a foot long. This obviously didn't last long, didn't have to ask about the destiny of the koi there. Next time I went in, there were 2 *very* large clown knifefish, each close to 2 feet long, one half blind. I ended up having to say something, but they just smiled at me and went about their business. Eventually I just stopped going to the place.

Hmm...I see that you have an empty tank. How 'bout filling it with an adopted wrasse? It couldn't hurt to ask the guy if he wants to free up some space by selling you the fish. :)
