I need to build a frag rack

I have seen many people making frag racks out of egg crate. I can handle that part.

My question is how do you mount it so that it can be moved up and down? The ones I have seen are usually mounted to the glass somehow or another.

get a good mag float and glue the egg crate to the mag float. magfloats have fery strong magnets inthem so i would go for the name brand magfloat if i where you. bigger the better

The first one I made was from egg crate but Hair Algae grew too it too much.

I made the second one from Acrylic & it does much better, just not adjustable.

I think we realize that, it's just for somethings you give the option to buy because it's so cheap and much eaiser.

I just built one yesterday and couldn't be easier.

Get two bottle caps from water bottles (they are shorter than soda bottles)

Get four neodymium magnets (1/2" or 5/8" diameter nickle plated) from the hardware store.

5 minute epoxy

Eggcrate shelf the size of your choice.

Leave two pairs of "fingers" on each end of the back of the shelf that will face the glass. Kind of like this:

Cut them half legth. Drop one magnet into each bottle cap. Mix up the epoxy and fill the bottle caps. Insert the "fingers" into the bottle caps and let it cure.

Done. Takes about 30 minutes.

I got both at Ace Hardware. Pretty easy to find, and cheap.

I didn't think to take any pictures before I put it in the tank. It's already full of frags

is it epoxy resin..?? Do you find it near the fiberglass resins..?? Thanks.. jsut want to make sure I'm using the right stuff...

i also found magnets at walmart where they have all the craft stuff
i made my frag rack using a magfloat and used silicone to glue the eggcrate

I used a magfloat to do my first one, but wasn't too happy with it. If you get a small one to limit the amount of space it takes up, it doesn't feel strong enough. If you get the bigger one, it takes up too much room.

Anyway, the way I described is a bunch cheaper than a magfloat and gives you more frag space.
