I need to kill some zoa's

I need to kill some zoa's

Scribbled rabbit fish will take care of all those zoas. I had purchased one by mistake and took most of mine. The only way I caught him was with a trap and putting in a few polyps in the trap for him to get at. He would not touch the fish food at all. Good luck

I had the same issue years ago. If you all remember ChrisAggie who was an active member of FMAS, he and a few others came up to West Palm and helped me tear down the 180 to catch him. That fish would not go in the trap.

Hello and Good morning,

My name is Emilio and I work for PETZ. This atrocity which you are about to commit will not stand with our organization. ZOAS ARE PEOPLE TOO! Please prepare all of your Zoas for prompt pickup by myself as I will put them in my tank.

Thank you for understanding our position

Understood officer. Please let me know when the colonies should be ready for pick-up. ;)

Toss in a filefish. It'll take care of any aiptasia too. Once you see it eating too many, remove it and sell it.

I wonder if the aiptazer would kill them. If so my buddy in Kendall has mine. I've also heard the lasers they use to burn aiptasia works.

Have you tried using tongs or a grabber and seeing if you can peel them off?

I thought PETA was

People
Eating
Tasty
Animals

Anyways your tempting me to drive down from Orlando and save them....

Thanks for the offer. The Orlando reef scene is pretty solid. I'm sure you have a bunch of great tanks to raid for awesome frags, not to mention WWC.

I'd love to do an Orlando tank hop someday.

I appreciate the advice. Although I've always wanted a filefish, I would prefer not to use a fish as the solution. With my luck he'll eat the Rastas and pink krackens, and whatever else is still in "frag status", leaving the punk rockers and others be.

I have picked them off with my fingernails (I know, dangerous) as well as needle-nose pliers, but I can never seem to make a real dent. They have already grown over a cherry millipora and it is officially gone. The purple bonsai is almost gone too.

I'd love to try your aptazer. Maybe we can coordinate that since I'm down by the Redlands.

I appreciate everyone's advice.

Like I said previously reposition your sps. Elevate them on platforms. Problem solved lol.

Thanks.

I've tried moving and elevating the SPS. Unfortunately many of the SPS are small colonies that are well attached so when I've broken them and moved them Ive left bases behind that have been encrusted over by the zoa's. Also, now if you look at the tank, all of the SPS are at the top. My bad for buying too many encrusting corals and zoas. I have the same issue with the mystic sunset montipora and spongodes both of which are encrusting over other corals.

I will post some photos later to help detail the issue.

Try one of these...

That laser seems a bit dangerous.

Here are a few pictures to better illustrate the issue. The first few are the zoa's encroaching on and covering the SPS.

In that last one you can clearly see that the entire base of the turquoise stag has been covered by zoanthids.

These next pictures are of the mystic sunset growing over the zoanthids and the spongides growing over the undata.

And finally here's one of the mystic growing right over the ROAB green digi.

My apologies for the crappy iPhone pictures. The mystic sunset and the spongides are relatively easy to address as I just break off the growth that's over the other corals and give the pieces away or toss them.

I just applied kalk paste to several yellow colony polyps per mention in this thread and some others. They shrank down and are turning black. I'll keep the thread posted on the happenings

I was worried because I've never used kalk paste before but everything looks fine and no big ph spike happened which is good. It's a problem any healthy tank may run into at some point. Even desirable corals can become invasive. I now regret putting montipora spongodes and rainbow montipora in my tank. Hard to frag and control encrusting montipora without sacrificing a whole rock.

Thank you Marvin for the offer. Fortunately for me I had a good friend come over last night to help me address some of the issue. Here are a few updated photos.
