I was trying to start a zoo garden in my 14G BC- My water parms are fine with the exception of some high nitrate- 20- 40 ppm but I do weekly water changes with RO at 1.026. About three weeks ago my zoos started closing- I removed them from the tank - dipped them and placed them in another tank on a frag rack and they reopened after a few days- placed them back in the 14G BC fine for a few days and then closed again- - what could be causing this-

Could it be crabs - they appear to be picking at them- please give me some ideas- Should I remove the crabs and bristleworms and snails and try again

please help

Is the BC new, has it finished cycling?
what are the parameters of your pH, Alk and temp?
what are you using for flow?

Well. Your nitrates are high.
Fix that forsure.

What's your salt at in the tank? It could be high.

How's the flow from tank to tank?

If they were in The BC before and fine it most likely your Something In Your water.

I would say remove the crabs and see what happens, anything picking at them will make them close.

Yes, the crabs and all those creatures that are touching them.
Take the creatures out and see what happens the next day. Give the zoas a time.

Besides that, it could be: too much light, high temperature, etc..

Grandis.

get the nitrates down and get the crabs out they are not really reef safe
replace them with nasariuss snails they will take care of your sand bed
also check for temp swings through out the day
