I hate to rain on your parade, but this is not really a beginner fish and will quickly outgrow your tank You should begin with a much hardier species, in my opinion. Even if your cycle is complete, it takes a hardy fish to live in a tank that hasn't matured. Why not see if your LFS will take it back and get that adorable baby a nice clown?

How large is the tang? It looks right about 2" (guess based of size of Caluerpa).
At 2" you should have some time before he outgrows the 3ft 46g Bowfront. But be forewarned he will outgrow the tank. I would pull him out of that tank once he gets 4.5"
As far as YT's not being hardy? Was that a joke?

as I recall there are several that when Juvi go thru a "Yellow" phase so depending on which "Yellow Tang" it is it may / may not be more / less "robust"
but yes as it grows there will come a day when a 3 foot tank will not work. this is true for just about any of the Tang / Surgeon fish group. but when that happens depends on the fish, the tank etc...
on the small side they can "grow out" very well for a fairly long time. if the owner knows when to find the fish a new home it can be ok. I have a 90 with a hippo, he is the only fish in the tank that will be a size issue later, when I got him he was about 1.5 inches long and very shy / timid.
now he has grown a bit and say1 1/2 or 2 years down the road he will ither be sold or I will have a larger tank, tough to say today which will be the case
By the way, OgreMkV can you get a better photo of the tang?
from what I can see he looks kinda thin.... if he is you may want to make sure he gets a good bit of a food mix and get him nice and up-to-grade.

He's been pecking at the rock and I offer a small sheet of nori every other day. He doesn't seem to care about the sheet food.
I do worry that he's not eating enough. But he's been getting steadily more interested in exploring the tank, coming to the front, not running when I come to the tank, etc. Thoughts?
I have several places to find him a good home when he gets too big.

Excellent! It will fatten up in no time. How's the Ric doing?
in addition to the nori you can also offer some chopped meat like shrimp. also romain lettuce leaf, use a rock to sink it or a nori clip to hold a chunk.
some will peck holes in the romain.
while they are mainly vegitarian some meat will be good to help build him up.
some tangs are very shy at first. some get bossy, some stay skittish....

I see a flatworm.....
see if you can get an ID on it...
some kinds eat coral.
others can be scavengers but may be a pest due to rapid reproduction.

this flatworm is a member of the planaria family. It is not harmful but it can reproduce so much it covers corals and smothers it. Flatworm exit may work, but you should do something about it before Part 2 arrives.

Update
Well, most of the tank survived our evacuation. We left Saturday morning and came back late last night.
The salinity was way high, but i've been adding small amounts of RO water all day and it's coming down.
I wasn't sure that fish was going to make it, but he's in great shape now. I have to feed him nori, because between him and the 3 inch crab, there is no algae in the tank at all. The rics however did not make it. They've been eaten.
I've also got two red porcelain crabs (one quarter sized, one nickel sized) and a small blue hermit.
Purple coraline algae is growing on the rocks.
I hand fed the crab today. He got a 1 inch piece of nori and he wasn't interested in waiting for me to place it, he reached out and took it from my gloved hand.
