I suck at placing frags!

More than half the time I try and place a new frag... it doesn't stay where I want it to.

Generally what I do is put a dollop of crazy glue gel on the bottom of the frag, then mash it down on the rock where I want it to live.

Sometimes it works, most of the times it seems to topple over in the course of the next few weeks.

What am I doing wrong? and how can I get my frags to set better?

Feeling like a dork.

Yeah, the superglue gel won't stick to live rock very well if it's covered with life. You can try cleaning up the rock before using the glue. I find the two part putty often works better for attaching frags to live rock.

What kind of frags do you have? There was a thread a while back about attaching SPS sideways to make a healthier colony. It just looks wrong to lay an acro down to start it, but it makes for a healthier base and faster growth.

You could try using a dremil (misspelled?) to shave the area just a little of the rock you want to glue your frag too...
Theres also a glue called IC-GEL, sold online or in many hobby shops. This stuff is very thick and holds like theres no tomorrow.

Try using Maxi-Cure Extra Thick Gel. You can get it most hobby shops. Hobby Oasis on St Johns Bluff Rd & Beach Blvd, in the Winn-Dixie shopping center has it. I think I paid $8 for a 2oz bottle. It's best to keep it in the freezer, it makes it even thicker.

I've had troubles with this also. I was directly epoxying or supergluing (i tried both) to the rockwork in tank. Tough to keep a clean bond and often knocked off or broke later. Also very tough to move when need to rejuggle due to growth. Lately I've taken out a bit of rubble rock, broken off a small piece. Scraped a clean spot on then IC glued the frag (drying frag base with towel) to small rock piece outside of the tank. Let is set for 10 minutes still outside the tank then epoxy the small rock with frag to bigger rocks in tank. Seems to be working much better.
