Iv'e been having problems keeping sps, figured it was to little flow or toxins or even possibly light.... but the symptoms were all too fast. Asternias, I looked at some other damage they have done and it looks identical to what has been happening to my stuff, and to top it all, i watched one of the little boogers scuttle right up to the edge of tissue recesion and stop and start munching, or at least i ASSume since it moved slowly along the very defined edge of tissue. Soooo, it's harlequin time!

I never noticed my asterinas eating/damaging any of my corals, but had way too many of them anyway, so I got a pair of harlequins. The harlequins wiped out the asterinas in about 1 1/2 months and I had a ton of them in my 110 DT. Just be prepared to start feeding the harlequins very soon.

I have only noticed it since i lost all of my stonies during my 400 mile moved in 8 degree weather, and have had to start again w/ frags, and having tons of the little buggers, so when you eat/remove 1/4" of flesh it is way more noticable on a frag than a 5"x5" colony. and apearently the coral can develope an infection which can further do damage. I don't gaurante that it's the asternia stars, but it make mores sense than my other options.
