i had a thread about a day or two about me introducing a maroon clown to my maroon clown (shes about 2 inches).

and i got tons of helpful tips (THANK YOU SO MUCH:) )

and i was told to find the smallest one i could find

i found one its about inch

is this too small? its soooooo tiny im afraid mine might eat it
:eek1:

any advice?

put the smaller one in a breeder net for a few days and see how the larger one acts towards the smaller one

sadly i don't have a breeder.

but some one told me to put it in a clear strawberry basket so it can go in and out. but mine cant

I dunno if there is such a thing as too small when pairing, as long as it is mature. I didn't have a breeder net I just put them in a small tank and got some Plexiglas from home depot to make a makeshift divider. It worked like a charm

I don't think that would be too small! Let us know how it goes or what other help you might need!

(BTW if you did want to use a breeders net - they're like $3 at a local pet store (that carries fresh water fish) )

alot of chasing and some nipping

i think its being aggressive because i had a mirror next to the tank and it always starred at its reflection and maybe it thought that it was its mate...

Have paired maroons on 4 occasions. The biggest factor is that the smaller has a place to get away from the established fish. You did not mention your tank size. I failed on several occasions to get a GBM to accept a male in a 30G cube. I moved the female to a 220...added a juvenile, took NO precautions as far as plexiglass/strawberry etc and the fish paired within the day. Weird. Also, having an anemone host at one end of the aquarium will help "anchor" the established fish so it won't chase the newcomer all over the place. I would say if the edge of the tank can extend at least 18" away from the anemone you should have enough space so that the female won't endlessly chase the new guy.

they were doing perfectly fine today but this afternoon i checked on them and the one small one's fin is missing a big chunk :[

what should i do?!
