I was just looking at my kole tang and noticed some whit spots on him. I am not sure if it is Ich or not so can i see some pictures? Also if it is i have a 20 gallon long that i can set up for a QT tank but no filtration what would you recommend for the the filtration? Also what type of medication should i use? This is my first time thinking i have had it and this was my last fish i was going to add to the tank so if he brings ich in and kills all my fish i will be extremely disappointed! so please help!!.

why don't you post a picture of your fish? Or Google it. I don't have any good pictures. If he has small white spots there is a good chance it is ich.

Ok so i just looked up a picture i am pretty positive i have ich. I have a 20 long i can set up for a QT but i have no filtratoin. Do i need filtration for the QT?

how long has the tank been up and how long have you had the tang. in my opinion dont rush into treatment. i think removing a fish that has a few spots of ich, putting him in a 20g tank, adding copper, etc, etc stresses the fish out even more. i've been down your road before and have lost more fish by pulling them out then just leaving them alone.

what i have done to help treat a few spots of ich. turn the temp up to 81. start feeding more. feed as much nori and meaty foods as possible (rods food, mysis, etc). soak food in garlic before feeding.

now if your fish is covered in ich...you may want to remove and treat. but remember if you do this and put him back in the tank and there are other fish in there...the ich will return so you're not really gaining anything.

I wish you would of posted sooner. I got all freaked out and caught him this morning and set up my 20 gallon with established water and just treated him.
I am confused though. I know some of the ICH fell off before i caught him so does that mean it is in my DT? If so how do i get it out of that tank? I am doomed for ever to never be able to add this guy back in the tank?

Do you have other fish in the display? If yes then most likely when you put him back in he could get it again. If you dont have any other fish in the display I think they say wait 30-40 days and the ich will die due to not having anything to host.

To 100% eradicate the ICH you will have to pull all fish out of the display tank and treat them. The display tank will then have to be left without ANY fish for a minimum of 6 weeks most suggest upwards of 10 weeks for the parasite to die off.

There's also a product called Kick Ich. Some people swear by it others dont. I wouldnt use it only because I'm afraid of what it would do to my corals. I hear it can raise PH quickly and cause a tank to crash but I've never tried it.

Take it easy, don't get crazy. Is the fish scratching or shaking it's head back and fourth very fast occasionally? Is it breathing faster than normal?
If not, it doesn't have ich.

Ok so i QT the fish and he got better. I left him in the QT for 2.5 weeks dosing copper. I then put him back in the DT and he got ich with in 5 days. I am not sure how to get rid of it? Should i QT him again or see if he can fight it off?

If you dosed copper "correctly" for that long, the fish did not have ich. If he got it again when you put him back, it is probably in your tank. Any other fish have symptoms?

i recently did a trial with Kick Ich, did not harm my corals or inverts, but did not do anything to the ich either. Fallow DT is the only way to go. And Hypo or cupramine for the fish in the HT.

Did you ever remove the other fish in the display and put them in QT? If not, the cycle will continue to wreak havoc until you eradicate it from the display.

I suggest you pull all the fish from the display and get them into a treated QT....keep them there for 5-6 weeks. After that, you can throw them back in the display knowing full well that they won't get Crypt again.

I havent seen any my other fish with and ICH this whole time. He has maybe 10 spots. So i am thinking i am going to see if he can fight it off and get some neon gobies so they can help fight the battle of ich. Has any one ever been successful this way? That is what my LFS told me to try and thats what they do.
