I think i just ruined a tank!

I just got a used 75 gallon aga tank.It some calcium buildup or something on the top 6 inches of the glass inside the tank. I decided to use a razor blade and scrape it off with some soapy water. I accidentally went a little to far and scraped a small spot of the silicon off. It is separated from the glass now. It's where the front pane and side pane are joined together about halfway up the tank. Did I just ruin the tank or will it be alright to use still?

Thanks,
Mike

Im not really sure if it went in between the two panes of glass or not. Can I just remove the bead of silicone on that corner and reseal it?

use 100% silicone... or aquarium sealant.... basically same thing.. you should still be in good shape. cut off the are you damaged first.

However you fix it, give it an outside water test for a few days after the silicone has cured!

Yeah that's a good idea I will definately do that. I just cut out the spot I damaged and I'm going to get some silicone tomorow and fix it.

RE seal the whole seam. Silicone dosn't stick to silicone very well, so where the new and old meet will be prone to leak. Be sure to test it before you set it up. Let it sit a few days, not just a few minutes. Leaks can sometimes take a while to develope. You can use 100% silicone from the hardware store. Use the door and window silicone, NOT the kitchen and Bath type. Kitchen and Bath silicone has mold inhibitors that are toxic to your tank over time. It's really not a big deal to fix, and really a good idea to re seal an old tank before setting it back up anyway.

Next time fill the old tank with water, and add a cup or two of citric acid from the canning dept at the grocery store. let it soak over night, and then rinse it good. It will shine like new, and you woun't have to do anything but wipe it out.
